Suffering as Possibility of Transformation in Nietzsche

Abstract

The inevitable existence of suffering in life has been one of the main themes of mytho-poetic/philosophical thought. However, the responses of themytho-poetic/philosophical thought to suffering and therefore to life, differ from each other. This difference, which can basically be interpreted as the rejection of suffering, transforms into a new and different perspective on suffering as a condition fort he possibility of transformation and the affirmation of life as a whole in Nietzsche’s philosophy. Nietzsche criticizes the explanations of traditional philosophical thought, religious teachings, moral and cultural norms and scientific-religious-philosophical quests for truth on the inevitable suffering of life because they classify suffering as bad/evil and try to exclude, destroy, numb d placate it from the existence. For Nietzsche, these responses to inevitable suffering are expressions of denial of life and therefore of suffering and of man’s separation from himself and from life. By re-evaluating suffering, Nietzsche, with his response to his own suffering, reveals the possibility of the creative-free individual who cheerfully affirms the totality of life, recreates life and himself and senses the primordial unity with nature. In this respect, this study aims to reveal the self-transcendence and transformation adventure of human through the mediation of suffering in the cyclical continuity of suffering and joy due to the tragic nature of existence within the aspect of Nietzsche’s philosophy.

Nietzsche’de Dönüşümün Olanağı Olarak Istırap

Öz

Yaşamda ıstırabın kaçınılmaz varoluşu mitoloji ve felsefi düşüncenin ana konularından biri olmuştur. Ancak mito-poetik/felsefi düşüncenin ıstıraba, dolayısıyla yaşama yönelik yanıtları birbirinden farklılık gösterir. Temelde ıstırabın reddi biçiminde yorumlanabilecek bu farklılık, Nietzsche felsefesinde bir bütün olarak yaşamın onaylanması ve dönüşümün olanağının koşulu olarak ıstıraba yönelik yeni ve farklı bir perspektife dönüşür. Nietzsche geleneksel felsefi düşüncenin, dinsel öğretilerin, ahlaki ve kültürel normların ve bilimsel-dinsel-felsefi hakikat arayışlarının yaşamın kaçınılmaz ıstırabına ilişkin açıklamalarını, ıstırabı bir kötülük/kötü (bad/evil) olarak düşünüp, varoluştan dışlama, yok etme, uyuşturma ve teskin etme çabaları nedeniyle eleştirir. Kaçınılmaz ıstıraba yönelik bu yanıtlar, Nietzsche açısından yaşamın, dolayısıyla ıstırabın reddinin ve insanın kendinden ve yaşamdan kopuşunun ifadesidir. Nietzsche ıstırabı yeniden değerlendirerek, kendi ıstırabına yönelik yanıtıyla, yaşamın bütünselliğini neşeyle onaylayıp, yaşamı ve kendini yeniden yaratan, doğayla ilksel birliği duyumsamış, yaratıcı-özgür bireyin olanağını açığa çıkarır. Bu açıdan bu çalışma varoluşun trajik yapısı nedeniyle ıstırap ve neşenin döngüsel sürekliliğinde, ıstırabın dolayımı aracılığıyla insanın kendini aşma ve dönüşüm serüvenini Nietzsche felsefesi açısından açığa çıkarmayı amaçlamaktadır.
