Determining Ecotourism Activity Strategies Based on Landscape Values: The Case of Manisa
Öz
Ecotourism activities, which are gaining global importance, stand out in urban and rural tourism areas for their landscape values. The growing interest of individuals in alternative types of ecotourism is considered a phenomenon that also affects the development dynamics of local governments and the local population. Ecotourism regions are growing rapidly in areas with high cultural heritage and biodiversity, similar to many protected areas. In this study, Manisa's rich natural, cultural and rural landscape values were analysed using the SWOT (S: strengths, W: weaknesses, O: opportunities, T: threats) technique and TFGZ (T: threats, O: opportunities, S; strengths, W; weaknesses) analysis methods to determine action-oriented strategies. The SWOT analysis was conducted using the Lawshe technique with the evaluation of seven experts, and strategies were developed in terms of planning and sustainability in line with the TOWS matrix. Manisa has many natural and cultural landscape resources in terms of ecotourism activities. Within this scope, ecotourism activities with potential were identified as plant observation, hiking, cycling, camping and caravan tourism, cultural and archaeological tours, wine tourism, festival tourism, and paragliding. However, it was emphasized that in order for the region, where services such as infrastructure and accom-modation are partially adequate, to achieve success in line with the comprehensive and long-term strategies outlined above regarding the area's ecotourism potential, the participation of the local community must be ensured. The importance of the region in terms of ecotourism activities in the future was also highlighted.
