Values Education and The Modern School As A Factory

Değerler eğitimi konusunda dikkate değer bir artış gösteren akademik çalışmalar, konuyu popüler bir moda olarak ele alan olumlayıcı yaklaşımın etkisindedir. Değerlerin ne’liği sorusu, öğretilmesinin ya da aktarılmasının imkânı, okulun değer üretme işlevi ve bunun meşruiyeti ve dünyada yaşanan dönüşümler gibi temalar ana akım yaklaşımlar tarafından dışlanmış görünmektedir. Bu doğrultuda genel olarak eğitim ve okulun ontolojik boyutlarına ilişkin bir çözümleme ve sorgulamanın ışığında değerler konusunun ele alınmasının önemli bir gereklilik olduğu söylenebilir. Bu bağlamda bu çalışmanın temel amacı modern okula yönelik eleştirilerden yola çıkılarak, okulların değer üreten fabrikalar olarak görülmesinin sonuçlarının değerler eğitimi çerçevesinde tartışılmasıdır. Bu tartışmanın okulun ve eğitimin niteliklerinin daha iyi anlaşılmasına ve değerler eğitimi yaklaşımlarının bu temelde sorgulanabilmesine katkı sağlaması beklenmektedir.

Having seen a remarkable increase in recent years, academic studies on values education are under the influence of an affirmative approach that deals with the matter as a popular fashion trend. It seems that topics such as the whatness of values, the feasibility of teaching or transmissing them, schools’ function to produce values, the legitimacy of this function and transformations worldwide are disregarded by mainstream approaches. Taking all this into consideration, it is safe to conclude that addressing values education in light of an overall analysis and inquiry on the ontological dimensions of education and school is an important necessity. Based on criticisms directed towards modern school and within the framework of values education, the main purpose of this study is to discuss the results of seeing schools as factories that produce values. It is expected that this discussion will help better understand the characteristics of modern school and education, thus contributing to the examination of approaches to values education on this basis.
