Adaptation Study of the Innovative Work Behavior Scale to Turkish Culture
Abstract
This study aimed at adapting the Innovative Work Behavior Scale developed by Dorenbosch, Engen, and Verhagen (2005) to the Turkish language and culture and performing the validity and reliability analyzes of the related scale. A linguistic equivalence study was carried out as the first step in adapting the Innovative Work Behavior scale. In the first step, the scale was translated into Turkish. After the scale was translated into Turkish, it was back-translated. The linguistic equivalence study was completed. The validity and reliability analyzes of the scale were performed. This scale was completed by 328 teachers working in public middle schools and imam hatip middle schools affiliated to Sincan District Directorate of National Education (Ankara province, Turkey) in the spring term of 2020-2021 academic year. The results of confirmatory factor analysis revealed that the factor structure of the three-dimensional scale demonstrated a good fit, and the results of the item analysis revealed that the distinctiveness of all items was quite high. The Cronbach Alpha Coefficient of the scale was determined to be .953. As a result of the analyzes performed, this scale, which was adapted to measure innovative working behaviors based on teachers’ opinions, was considered as a measurement tool with validity and reliability.
