INVESTIGATION OF IDIOMS IN GÜLTEN DAYIOĞLU’S STORIES IN TERMS OF TRANSPARENCY AND FAMILIARITY DEGREES

Öz

The purpose of this study is to investigate the idioms in Gülten Dayıoğlu’s stories that were written for 8 years and above in terms of transparency and familiarity degrees. The research is a descriptive survey model. The sample of the study consists of 53 stories. Research was conducted with a total of 901 students who continue their education in second (256), third (423) and fourth (222) grades. The transparency degreeof idioms were identified by 5 experts according to the degree of agreement between literal and figurative meaning of an idiom. A triple-point Likert-type scale was created to determine the degree of familiarity of idioms by participating students. In the result of analyzes, it was identified that partly related idioms are most put in appearance in terms of transparency in analyzed works. And the familiarity of idiomswere identified most as medium level. Moreover, it is identified that the familiarity degree of idioms are significantly differ according to grade variable, but not according to gender variable

GÜLTEN DAYIOĞLU’NUN ÖYKÜLERİNDEKİ DEYİMLERİN TANINIRLIK VE SAYDAMLIK DERECELERİ BAKIMINDAN İNCELENMESİ

Öz

Bu araştırmanın amacı, Gülten Dayıoğlu’nun 8 yaş ve üstü okuyucular için yazdığı öykülerindeki deyimleri saydamlık ve tanınırlık dereceleri bakımından incelemektir. Tarama modelindeki betimsel nitelikli bu araştırmanın örneklemini 53 öykü oluşturmuştur. Araştırma ikinci (256), üçüncü (423) ve dördüncü (222) sınıfta öğrenimlerini sürdüren toplam 901 öğrenci ile yürütülmüştür. Deyimlerin saydamlık derecesi beş uzman tarafından deyimin gerçek anlamı ile deyimsel anlamı arasındaki ilişkiye göre belirlenmiştir. Deyimlerin katılımcı öğrenciler tarafından tanınırlık derecelerinin belirlenmesi için üçlü likert tipi bir ölçek oluşturulmuştur. Yapılan çözümleme sonucunda, incelenen yapıtlarda saydamlık derecesi bakımından en çok, kısmen ilişkili deyimlerin yer aldığı ve deyimlerin büyük oranda orta düzeyde tanındığı belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca, deyimlerin tanınırlık düzeylerinin sınıf değişkenine göre farklılaştığı, cinsiyet değişkenine göre farklılaşmadığı belirlenmiştir
