Öz

Bu çalışmada, astronot Homer Hickam’in gerçek yaşam hikâyesine dayanan Ekim Düşü filmi, Sosyal Bilişsel Kariyer Kuramı temel alınarak üstün yeteneklilerin kariyer gelişim özellikleri ve güçlükleri açısından incelenmiştir. Çalışmada, nitel araştırma desenine dayalı doküman analizi yöntemi kullanılmıştır.
Bulgularda, yetkinlik beklentisi, çevresel etkiler ve kariyer engelleri temaları öne çıkmıştır. Bunları sonuç beklentisi ve kariyer destekleri temaları izlemiştir. Bu temalar altında en az gözlemlenen alt temalar ise, ortama özgü kariyer engelleri, başarılı/başarısız performans yaşantıları, uzak ve yakın çevresel etkiler, şu andaki sonuç ve tepkilere dikkat etme, fizyolojik ve duyuşsal durumlar ve performans hedefleri olmuştur. Bu bulgular, üstün yetenekli öğrencilerin mükemmeliyetçilik, yüksek motivasyon, mizah anlayışı, erken kariyer yönelimi, prestijli mesleklere yönelme, kariyer ilgi ve hedeflerinin önemli oluşu gibi özellikleri ile uyumlu bulunmuştur. Ailenin ve çevrenin üstün yeteneklilerden yüksek beklentileri yerine düşük sosyo-ekonomik düzeyin etkileri rol oynamıştır. Bulgular doğrultusunda, kuramsal dayanakla da tutarlı bir şekilde Homer’in olumsuz çevre koşulları ve kariyer engellerine rağmen yetkinlik inancı ve olumlu sonuç beklentileri ile kariyer hedefine doğru hareket ettiği ve ulaştığı söylenebilir. Bu çalışmanın, üstün yetenekli ergenlerin kariyer gelişimlerini desteklemeye yönelik gerçekleştirilebilecek film terapi uygulamaları için bir kaynak oluşturması beklenmektedir.
