Development A Scale for Measuring the Factors Determining Company Preferences in Voluntary Individual Pension Systems

Öz

The Private Pension System (PPS) is an important financial instrument for developed societies and recent legal regulations in Turkey have made the system more attractive for investors. With these developments, there has been a significant increase in the number of PPS companies operating in Turkey. It is a critical decision-making process for investors to choose the most suitable one among the many alternatives. The purpose of this study is to develop a scale to determine the factors influencing the voluntary PPS company preferences of individuals between the ages of 25-35, university graduates and employees. The data obtained from 220 participants were determined to be suitable for factor analysis with KMO and Bartlett tests, and the question pool of 192 items was reduced to 109 items with expert opinion. As a result of the exploratory factor analysis, inappropriate items were removed and a seven-factor structure consisting of 31 items was obtained. These factors are named as “After Sales Services”, “Professional Fund Management”, “Company Image”, “Trust”, ‘Experience’, “Portfolio Size” and “Diversity of Pension Plans”. The fit indices obtained as a result of the confirmatory factor analysis were χ2/df=1.058, CFI=0.998, TLI=0.998, SRMR=0.062 and RMSEA=0.016, respectively. These values show that the validity of the structure created by the exploratory factor analysis was ensured by confirmatory factor analysis. In addition, the overall reliability coefficient of the scale was calculated as Cronbach α=0.668 and it was concluded that the scale was valid and highly reliable.
