THE EFFECT OF EXPERIENCE AND COGNITIVE PROCESSES ON ATTENTIONAL PERFORMANCE IN VOLLEYBALL REFEREEING

Öz

This study aims to examine the effects of experience and cognitive fatigue on attentional performance in volleyball referees. The study was designed in a 2x2 factorial design including experience (experienced and inexperienced) and cognitive load (experimental and control) variables. A total of 55 participants with different refereeing levels were included in the study. Participants' attentional performance was assessed in terms of reaction speed and number of correct responses with the SIGNAL Attention Test. Results showed that cognitive load and experience had no significant effect on attentional performance. However, male participants were found to exhibit faster reaction times and higher accuracy rates than females. The study aimed to contribute to the literature on the role of cognitive load and experience in refereeing performance. The results provide a new perspective for understanding the cognitive processes of referees in the context of sport psychology, while recommendations for future research and limitations are discussed.

VOLEYBOL HAKEMLİĞİNDE TECRÜBE VE BİLİŞSEL SÜREÇLERİN DİKKAT PERFORMANSINA ETKİSİ

Öz

Bu çalışma, voleybol hakemlerinde tecrübe ve bilişsel yorgunluğun dikkat performansı üzerindeki etkilerini incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Araştırma, tecrübe (tecrübeli ve tecrübesiz) ve bilişsel yük (deney ve kontrol) değişkenlerini içeren 2x2 faktöriyel bir desende tasarlanmıştır. Çalışmaya, farklı hakemlik seviyelerinde olan toplam 55 katılımcı dahil edilmiştir. Katılımcıların dikkat performansı, SIGNAL Dikkat Testi ile reaksiyon hızı ve doğru yanıt sayısı açısından değerlendirilmiştir. Bulgular, bilişsel yük ve tecrübenin dikkat performansı üzerinde anlamlı bir etkisinin olmadığını göstermiştir. Ancak, erkek katılımcıların kadınlara göre daha hızlı reaksiyon süreleri ve daha yüksek doğruluk oranları sergilediği tespit edilmiştir. Çalışma, bilişsel yorgunluk ve tecrübenin hakemlik performansındaki rolüne ilişkin literatüre katkıda bulunmayı hedeflemiştir. Sonuçlar, spor psikolojisi bağlamında hakemlerin bilişsel süreçlerini anlamaya yönelik yeni bir perspektif sunarken, gelecekteki araştırmalar için öneriler ve sınırlılıklar tartışılmıştır.
