The aim of this study is to present the general status of the findings and studies on this subject in the literature by examining the articles trying to determine the effect of music in the workplace on employees between 2000 and 2025. Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method was used in the study. The sample of the study consists of 18 articles published in journals that examine the effects of listening to music in the workplace on employees and scanned in three databases: Google Scholar, WOS and Ebscohost. The articles in the sample were examined according to the databases, years, journals, analysis methods they used, and the results they obtained. According to the findings of the study, there are not enough studies on the subject in the literature. Based on the findings, the effects of listening to music in the workplace on employees were analyzed under two headings: the effects of music on individual employees and the effects of music on the work they perform. Under the first heading, the common effect emphasized by the articles in general is that listening to music in the workplace reduces the stress levels of employees and has a positive effect on stress management. Under the second heading, listening to music affects the individual performance of employees, while an increase in employee productivity is another emphasized effect. In addition, a quarter of the articles emphasize that it causes an increase in concentration among employees. Under the second heading, approximately one-third of the articles agree that listening to music affects the individual performance of employees, while another emphasized effect is an increase in employee productivity.
In conclusion, music listened to in the workplace has significant effects on employees both cognitively and physically. These effects positively affect both the performance of the employees and the work they perform and naturally the performance of the organization. However, there are not enough studies on the subject and therefore more studies are needed.
