Noor-Ul-Hacq Sookia is an Associate Professor at the Department of Mathematics, at the University of Mauritius. He holds a first class honours undergraduate degree in Mathematics, a master’s degree in Mathematics (Analysis) with distinction from King's College London and a PhD in Mathematics. He has a solid background in Pure Mathematics, thus enabling him to do applications with respect to the mathematical and analytical modeling in Finance. Lately he has been carrying out research in the field of risk modeling, including Value at Risk and ARCH-GARCH modeling. He has also applied Vector Autoregressive Methodology to model macro-economic factors in Finance and currently carries out research with respect to time series analysis and forecasting. He has published 20 peer-reviewed papers and around 10 non peer-reviewed papers in various national and international outlets; Around 40 of his papers have been presented in national and international conferences. He has acted as supervisor for more than 100 BSc projects and 10 MSc projects. He has also supervised 1 MPHIL and 3 PhD students successfully. At present, 4 students, under his supervision, are doing their research that will eventually lead to a PhD degree. One of his co-authored publications has appeared in honour of the tenth anniversary issue of The Journal of Risk Model Validation, as one of the ten most cited papers. He is the only supervisor in the whole university of Mauritius who has successfully supervised a PhD student in one year only. The area is a categorical approach to some aspects of topological spaces and this work is both wide-ranging and in depth. Recently Wiley thanked him for helping African Development Review, via one of his research papers, to achieve an increased Impact Factor of 1.878
