In the present study, the use of the Word List for the Goethe B1 certificate in the “Reading Skills I” course has been handled. The purpose of the study was to identify the experiences and memory strategies that the first year German Language Teaching students acquire with the Vocabulary List and be able to develop didactic steps based on this identification. According to the results obtained from the questionnaires, it was found that the memory strategy repertoire of the students was not sufficient and they actually preferred to use the less effective way of only memorization. Based on our questionnaires results and relevant studies in the related field, recommendations for the transfer of memory strategies were presented within the framework of action research.
