Her research focuses on the criticism, theory and history of architecture, and cross-disciplinary studies of architecture, media, art, culture, society, and urban space. She is also actively engaged in arts and crafts, including playing the piano, singing, making sculptures, drawing, clothing design and sewing.
She was a visiting teacher at the Architectural Association School of Architecture (AA, London) in 2012. She was awarded scholarships from the Reseau Network in Brussels (2019), Centre for Eastern Mediterranean Studies in Budapest (2017), Cultural Literacy in Europe Committee in London (2017), Si Shang Art Museum in Beijing (2016), Volkswagenstiftung in Trier and Luxembourg (2015), among many other national grants (Tübitak and Ulakbim).
Assoc. Prof. Dr. İlgi Atay Kaya works at the Department of City and Regional Planning of Dokuz Eylül University (DEU). Her research interests include urban planning conflicts, locally unwanted land uses, sustainability measurement, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, and do-it-yourself urbanism. She received her degrees of Bachelor, Master, and Ph.D. in City and Regional Planning at İzmir Institute of Technology (IZTECH) in 2006, 2009, and 2014, respectively.
