Policies – Retraction and Correction

EKSEN MFD implements retraction and correction processes in accordance with COPE guidelines (https://publicationethics.org/guidance/guideline/retraction-guidelines) in order to maintain the reliability of the content or data of articles when necessary. In these processes, transparency, the preservation of the scientific record, and the protection of the rights of all stakeholders are the fundamental principles. The duties and responsibilities of the author(s) and the editorial board during the process of retracting a study or article (retraction) and/or making corrections (correction) to the article content are given below.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE AUTHORS

- In the Retraction Process
The author(s) are obliged to cooperate with the journal editor in retraction procedures if they detect a significant error or ethical violation in their studies that are at the initial submission, evaluation, early view stage, or already published. Authors who wish to withdraw a manuscript under evaluation must submit their requests through the journal management system via the DergiPark system. It is essential that the manuscript is not submitted to another journal before the evaluation process is completed.

- Correction of a Published Article
If the author(s) identify a significant error or ethical violation in their published work, they must immediately inform the editor and cooperate for the necessary corrections. Correction requests must be submitted through the DergiPark system with the approval of all authors.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE EDITOR AND THE EDITORIAL BOARD

- Retraction Process
The editor and the editorial board are obliged to initiate an impartial, independent, and transparent investigation if there is a suspicion of ethical or copyright violation, error, or plagiarism regarding a study that is published, in early view, or under evaluation. If, as a result of the investigation, the editorial board determines that copyright infringement or plagiarism has occurred in a manuscript under evaluation, it withdraws the manuscript from the evaluation process and returns it to the authors by documenting the identified issues in detail with proper references. If the editorial board determines that copyright infringement or plagiarism has occurred in a published or early view article, it carries out the following actions within a reasonable time after the investigation is completed:

- Processing of Retracted Articles

  1. The phrase “Retracted:” is added to the beginning of the title in the electronic display.
  2. The electronic version of the article remains accessible.
  3. A clear indication that the article has been retracted is added to the article.
  4. The reason for retraction is published as a separate and explicit retraction notice.
  5. The reason is explained transparently in this notice.
  6. Relevant institutions and indexing organizations are informed when necessary.

- Retraction at the Request of the Author
Retraction requests submitted by the authors are reviewed by the editor and the editorial board. Expert opinion is sought if deemed necessary. If the request is approved, the retraction process is carried out in accordance with COPE guidelines.

- Correction Process
If errors are identified in published articles that are misleading but do not affect the overall findings, and if there is no serious ethical issue requiring retraction, corrections may be made due to author error (corrigendum) or technical errors made by the publisher/journal (erratum).

- Correction at the Request of the Author
Correction requests submitted by the authors or errors identified through other means are reviewed by the editor and the editorial board. Expert opinion is sought if deemed necessary.
If the editorial board deems the correction appropriate, the corrected article is published in subsequent issues under the section “Corrected Articles.”
