Author Guidelines
Harran University Journal of the Faculty of Medicine (e-ISSN: 1309-4025, ISSN: 1304-9623) is the periodic, peer-reviewed, open-access, official scientific publication organ of Harran University. In the journal, which started its publication life in 2004, all articles published from 2025 onwards are shared with the public for free and as open access under the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license. It is published 4 times a year in March, June, September, and December in Turkish or English.

The article format must comply with the ICMJE Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing, and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals (http://www.icmje.org/icmje-recommendations.pdf) . Articles that do not conform to the journal format and in which the total similarity rate exceeds 25% in the review with a plagiarism detection software will be sent back to the author for correction without being evaluated.

All studies submitted to the journal must be original and not have been published elsewhere before. The exception to this rule is oral presentations or posters that have been presented as abstracts at scientific congresses. It should be stated that your article was previously presented as an oral presentation or poster at a scientific congress. This information should be added to the cover page or the relevant field in the online article upload system, and details such as the name, date, and place of the congress where the abstract was published must be specified. If the article is produced from postgraduate theses, its date and thesis number (National Thesis Center) should be specified. The ethical, scientific, and legal responsibility of all published studies belongs to the authors.

General Rules
All works to be submitted to the journal must be in Microsoft Word format. All figures, graphs, and tables along with the article text must be presented as a single file or in electronic media in accordance with the instructions. E) Invited Review
• This type of article is limited in number and is not subject to peer review. Invited reviews are accepted for publication directly through editor approval.

Copyright Form: The copyright form must be signed by all authors and submitted as an attachment to the submission.

Editorial Policies
The International Journal of Medicine Editors Committee (ICMJE) and the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME) Publication Ethics Committee (COPE) adopt the standards. Additionally, it adheres to the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) recommendations for the conduct, reporting, editing, and publication of scholarly work in medical journals.

Authorship Criteria
We follow the criteria of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (JAMA. 1997; 277:927-934). For articles with two or more authors, each author must have actively and substantially contributed to the work.
Authors have been included based on:
(1) to have contributed to the concept and design of the study or to the analysis and interpretation of data,
(2) to have made significant contributions to the preparation of the draft of the article or to its critical revision for important intellectual content,
(3) to have approved the final version of the article submitted.

All authors must meet the 3 conditions specified above. Individuals who contributed to the study but do not meet these criteria should be acknowledged separately. In the cover letter, it should be confirmed that all listed authors meet these authorship requirements.
Articles should only be submitted for evaluation after written approval has been received from all contributing authors.

Editorship Authorship
The peer review process in our journal is confidential for all parties. Section editors' manuscripts undergo anonymous peer review like those of other authors.
Chief editors and section editors are obligated to inform journal management if there is any conflict of interest among them.
Administrators cannot make suggestions and/or exert pressure on editors regarding manuscripts submitted to the journal.

Conflict of Interest
Corresponding authors must declare conflicts of interest and disputes. Financial and all kinds of contributions, support, and funds received for the study that is the subject of the submitted manuscript should be specified (including explanations on how and at which stage of the study this support was received). If no support was received, this should also be declared.
Authors, editors, and reviewers should report any conflicts of interest that could affect their decision-making processes in writing to the Editor-in-Chief.

Plagiarism and Other Violations
The quality of submitted data and analyses is of utmost importance to our journal. Authors must provide datasets if requested by editors for review. All submissions are checked for plagiarism and duplication using appropriate software. By submitting an article, authors agree that it may be scanned for plagiarism by comparison with previously published works. If plagiarism is detected prior to publication, the manuscript will be rejected and the authors' institutions may be notified.
Articles that are under review by another journal or previously published are not accepted. Therefore, authors must confirm in their cover letters that the article has not been submitted elsewhere.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Usage Policy for Authors
In accordance with the principles and recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), Journal of Harran University Medical Faculty acknowledges the increasing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in academic writing and research. However, to ensure transparency, accountability, and integrity, the use of AI must comply with ethical publishing standards.
Therefore, authors are required to adhere to the following rules:

1) Artificial Intelligence Tools Cannot Be Listed as Authors
We follow COPE's position that artificial intelligence tools cannot fulfill the role of author and therefore cannot be listed as authors in any submission. Only individuals who meet the authorship criteria (e.g., substantial contribution, accountability, and approval of the final version) should be designated as authors.

2) Disclosure of AI Use is Mandatory
"Authors who use artificial intelligence tools in the writing of a manuscript, in the creation of article images or graphic elements, or in the collection and analysis of data must transparently disclose in the Methods section and in the cover letter of the article how and which AI tool was used." The following format can be used in the cover letter:
"In the preparation of this manuscript, the authors used [Tool Name, e.g., ChatGPT, OpenAI] for [a specific purpose, e.g., language editing, drafting parts of the introduction, summarizing background literature]. After using this tool, the authors reviewed and edited the content as necessary and take full responsibility for the publication's content."
The hidden or unethical use of artificial intelligence (AI) may lead to the rejection of the manuscript or the retraction of the published article.
This policy will be periodically reviewed and updated in accordance with COPE guidance and evolving best practices.
If you have any questions regarding the use of artificial intelligence tools, please contact the editorial office before submitting.

Publication Ethics
Journal of Harran University Medical Faculty adopts the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and evaluates all submitted articles within this framework by accepting publication ethics principles. For detailed policies and case examples, please visit the following addresses:

Ethical Approval
Research involving humans, their data, or materials must comply with the Helsinki Declaration and possess ethical committee approval as well as informed consent forms obtained from study participants. If ethical approval is not required, the exemption and approval body should be specified. Authors must provide supporting documents upon request. The editor may reject studies not conducted within an appropriate ethical framework and may contact the ethics committee for further information.
For experimental, clinical, and drug human studies, a declaration of ethical committee approval and the study protocol's compliance with international agreements (World Medical Association Helsinki Declaration "Ethical Principles for Medical Research Involving Human Subjects," as amended in October 2013) is required. In experimental animal studies, authors must state that the applied procedures comply with animal rights (Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals) and obtain animal ethics committee approval. The Ethical Committee approval document must be uploaded together with the manuscript text to Journal of Harran University Medical Faculty online article system, DergiPark, along with the article.
For research requiring ethics committee approval, information stating that the international guidelines mentioned above were followed, that ethics committee approval was obtained (name of the committee, date, and issue number), and that an informed voluntary consent/assent form was signed must be included in the methods section of the article. For individuals under the age of eighteen, a consent form containing the signatures of both parents or the individual's legal guardian or custodian must be provided. These items are required for case reports where there is a possibility that the data/media could reveal the patient's identity.

PUBLISHING PRINCIPLES
Journal of Harran University Medical Faculty adheres to the publication principles stipulated and accepted by the following organizations: Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA), Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI), World Association of Medical Editors (WAME), and International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). Furthermore, Journal of Harran University Medical Faculty implements the publication policies set forth by DergiPark, under the umbrella of TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM, where it is indexed.

Human and Animal Rights
For experimental, clinical, and drug human studies, a declaration regarding the approval of the ethics committee and the conformity of the study protocol to international agreements (World Medical Association Declaration of Helsinki "Ethical Principles for Medical Research Involving Human Subjects," amended October 2013) is required. In experimental animal studies, the authors must state that the applied procedures are in compliance with animal rights (Guide for the care and use of laboratory animals) and must have obtained animal ethics committee approval. The Ethics Committee approval document must be uploaded to the Journal of Harran University Medical Faculty online article system, DergiPark, together with the article text.

The ethics committee approval; the declaration that the international guidelines specified above were complied with; and the evidence that informed consent was obtained from the patient, must be stated in the Materials and Method section. In cases where there is a possibility of the data/media revealing the identity of the patient, these items are required for case reports.

For individuals under the age of 18, a consent form containing the signatures of both parents or the person's legal guardian or custodian should be provided.

Plagiarism and Other Violations
The quality of the submitted data and analyses are important issues for the Journal of Harran University Medical Faculty. Authors are obliged to provide their data sets upon request from the editors. The journal editors check the text contents for plagiarism and duplication using the relevant software. By submitting their articles to this journal, authors are deemed to have accepted that the article may be subjected to plagiarism checks against previously published works. If plagiarism is detected prior to publication, the article will be rejected and the authors will be subject to institutional recognition. This information may be sent to the authors' institutions and other relevant bodies. The Journal of Harran University Medical Faculty does not accept articles that have been previously submitted to another journal for evaluation and/or previously published. Therefore, authors must ensure and declare in the cover letter that the article has not been simultaneously submitted to any other journal. An exception to this rule are oral presentations or posters that have been presented as abstracts at scientific congresses. It should be stated if your article has been previously presented as an oral presentation or poster at a scientific congress. This information should be added to the cover page or relevant field in the online article submission system, and details such as the name, date, and location of the congress where the abstract was published must be specified. The entire ethical, scientific, and legal responsibility of published works belongs to the authors. In the review conducted with the plagiarism detection software, articles with a total similarity rate exceeding 25% will be returned to the author for correction without being evaluated. An article in the process cannot be submitted to or published in another journal.

Declarations and Conflicts of Interest
All financial support sources must be disclosed. All authors should declare whether there is any conflict of interest in the process of creating their work. Any financial grants or other support received from individuals or institutions for a study must be disclosed to the Editorial Board of the Journal of Harran University Medical Faculty. To declare a potential conflict of interest, the ICMJE Potential Conflict of Interest Disclosure Form must be completed and submitted by all contributing authors to the article. The Journal's Editorial Board determines potential conflict of interest situations of editors, authors, or reviewers within the scope of COPE and ICMJE guidelines.

Conditions that provide financial or personal gain lead to a conflict of interest. The reliability of the scientific process and published articles is directly related to the objective consideration of conflict of interests during the planning, implementation, writing, evaluation, editing, and publication of scientific studies.

Financial relationships are the most easily identifiable conflicts of interest and it is inevitable that they affect the reputation of the journal, the authors, and science. These conflicts may arise from individual relationships, academic competition, or intellectual approaches. Authors should avoid as much as possible making agreements with sponsors with the view of gaining profit or any other advantage that restricts their ability to access all the data of the study or to analyze, interpret, prepare, and publish their articles. Editors, who make the final decision about articles, should not have any personal, professional, or financial ties with any of the issues they will decide on. Authors should inform the editorial board about potential conflicts of interest to ensure that their articles are evaluated within the framework of ethical principles through an independent evaluation process.

If any of the editors is an author in any article, the relevant editor is removed from the article evaluation process. To prevent any conflict of interest, the article evaluation process is conducted as double-blind. Due to the double-blind evaluation process, none of the editorial board members, international advisory board members, or reviewers, except the Chief Editor, are informed about the authors of the article or the authors' institutions.

Our publication team works diligently to ensure that the evaluation process is conducted impartially, taking all these situations into consideration.

Authorship and Declaration
We adopt the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors criteria (JAMA. 1997; 277:927-934). For articles with two or more authors, each author must meet the necessary conditions for authorship by having participated actively and sufficiently in the conducted and reported study. The inclusion of each author in an article's author list is based solely on the following grounds:

(1) to have contributed to the concept and design of the study or to the analysis and interpretation of data,
(2) to have made significant contributions to the preparation of the draft of the article or to its critical revision for important intellectual content,
(3) to approve the final version of the article submitted.

All three conditions specified above must be met. Other individuals who contributed to the study should be acknowledged separately in the Acknowledgments section. In the cover letter accompanying the submitted manuscripts, it should be confirmed that all authors have fulfilled both conditions.
The responsibility for compliance with international ethical principles such as fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, salami slicing, unjust signature (gift authorship), ghost authorship, and duplicate publication in articles submitted to our journal belongs to the authors. If such a situation is detected before or after publication in any research, the article is retracted from the journal.

Authorship of Editors
The peer review process of the Journal of Harran University Medical Faculty is conducted confidentially for all parties. Since confidentiality cannot be ensured in the evaluation process, editors cannot submit their own articles to the journal except for editorial writings. Section editors, however, may submit their articles to the Journal of Harran University Medical Faculty. The articles of section editors undergo confidential peer review like the articles of other authors. Chief editors and section editors are obliged to report to the Journal management if there is any conflict of interest among themselves. Administrators cannot make suggestions and/or put pressure on editors regarding articles submitted to the Journal of Harran University Medical Faculty. Articles should only be submitted for evaluation after obtaining the written approval of all contributing authors. The author list should include all individuals who can be listed as authors in accordance with the authorship policies of ICMJE and COPE.

Therefore, authors must comply with the following rules:

1. Artificial Intelligence Tools Cannot Be Listed as Authors
It follows COPE's view that artificial intelligence tools cannot fulfill the role of author and therefore cannot be listed as authors in any submission. Only individuals who meet the authorship criteria (for example, significant contribution, accountability, and approval of the final version) should be named as authors.

2. Disclosure of Artificial Intelligence Use is Mandatory
"Authors who use artificial intelligence tools in the writing of a manuscript, in the creation of article images or graphic elements, or in the collection and analysis of data, must transparently disclose how and which AI tool was used in the Methods section and in the article's cover letter." The following format can be used in the cover letter:
"In the preparation of this manuscript, the authors used [Tool Name, e.g., ChatGPT, OpenAI] for [a specific purpose, e.g., language editing, drafting some parts of the introduction, summarizing background literature]. After using this tool, the authors reviewed and edited the content as necessary and take full responsibility for the publication's content."
Covert or unethical use of artificial intelligence (AI) may lead to the rejection of the article or the retraction of the published article.
This policy will be periodically reviewed and updated in accordance with COPE guidance and evolving best practices.
If you have any questions regarding the use of artificial intelligence tools, please contact the editorial office before submitting.

Advertising Policy
Journal of Harran University Medical Faculty is the periodic, peer-reviewed, open-access, scientific official publication of Harran University. The journal maintains its publication activities independently of any commercial advertising or sponsorship agreements in order to preserve its academic independence.
All editorial decisions are made solely based on academic standards, scientific value, and a rigorous peer review process, without any commercial or financial influence. The journal operates in accordance with Harran University's financial and publication policies, with a commitment to serving the public interest and advancing scientific knowledge.
In accordance with these principles, the journal does not publish commercial advertisements or sponsored content; it is dedicated solely to the dissemination of academic and scientific materials. Ethical publishing practices and editorial independence are observed at all stages of the publication process.

Objections and Complaint
Appeals and complaint cases are handled by the journal's Editorial Board within the scope of the COPE guidelines. Appeals must be based on the scientific content of the article. The final decision on appeals and complaints is made by the Editor-in-Chief. Depending on the situation, a mediator or an external ethics editor is assigned to resolve cases that cannot be resolved internally. Authors must contact the editor-in-chief  and tipdergisi@harran.edu.tr  e-mail addresses regarding their appeals and complaints.

Addressing Unethical Publishing Behavior
The publisher, in cases of alleged or proven scientific misconduct, fraud, or plagiarism, will take all appropriate measures, in close cooperation with the editors, to modify the article in question. This includes, in the most severe case, the prompt publication of a correction, clarification, or retraction of the affected work. The publisher, together with the editors, shall take reasonable steps to identify and prevent the publication of papers in which research misconduct has occurred, and under no circumstances shall they encourage such misconduct or knowingly allow it to take place.

Errors Detected in Published Works
Authors are obligated to promptly inform the journal's editors or publisher if significant errors or inaccuracies are detected in the published work and to cooperate with them to correct or retract the article. If the editors or publisher learn from a third party that a published work contains a material error or inaccuracy, the authors must either promptly correct the article or present the justification for retraction to the editorial board, or provide the journal editors with proof of the article's accuracy.

Digital Archiving and Preservation Policy
Digital preservation is a set of processes and activities that guarantee access to and distribution of information available in digital format to ensure long-term and continuous access. The preservation policy includes the following measures:

Website Archiving
All electronic content (website, manuscript, etc.) is stored in different sources. The content on one server is online and accessible to readers. A copy of the same content is kept as a backup. In case of a server failure, the archive is provided from other resources.

Abstracting/Indexing Services
The abstracting/indexing services of our journal store basic information about the articles. Also, some abstracting/indexing services archive the metadata about the articles and the electronic versions of the articles. In this way, copies of the articles are presented to the scientific community through these systems as an alternative to the journals.

Cessation of Publication
In the event that the publication of this journal is discontinued, the articles will remain online and accessible to readers through third parties and archiving processes as described above. In specific circumstances such as the cessation of the publication process, the content can be accessed via the link: https://tipdergisi.harran.edu.tr/tipdergisi/tr/dergiler/dergi-arsivi/.

Authors' Archiving Policy

Abstract and Citation Information
Authors may reuse the abstract and citation information of their articles (e.g., title, author name, publication dates) including on social media platforms; however, a backlink must be provided as a citation to the article on the Journal of Harran University Medical Faculty website.

Accepted Manuscript
The "accepted manuscript" is the final draft of the author's manuscript, including revisions made in response to reviewers' suggestions, accepted by a journal for publication, before undergoing copyediting and typesetting.
Authors of open access articles have the freedom to publish their articles anywhere and share their links immediately after publication. However, a backlink must be provided as a citation to the article on the Journal of Harran University Medical Faculty website.

No fee is charged from the authors during the article evaluation and publication process.
