Guidelines for Authors

Evaluation Process

İçtimaiyat adopts "the double-blind peer review process" as a review process for papers. The articles sent to İçtimiayat are first evaluated by the Editorial Board in terms of compliance with journal principles. Manuscripts that are not included in the scope of the journal or that do not meet the requirements for scientific reasons are rejected before the refereeing process is started.

Articles sent to İçtimaiyat must comply with the journal writing rules. Studies that do not comply with the journal writing rules will not be evaluated.

Articles sent to İçtimaiyat are scanned in plagiarism programs. The İçtimaiyat uses the similarity programs intihal.net and iThenticate. Manuscripts that do not meet the required conditions are either rejected or sent to the author for correction before the refereeing process is started. After the preliminary evaluation, the articles sent to İçtimaiyat are sent to two referees working on the subject for evaluation.

İçtimiayat Journal uses the double-blind review system in which the names of the referees and authors are reserved at every stage of the process. İçtimaiyat sends the manuscripts to the referees who are not from the same institution as the authors. Scholarly affiliation reviewers are preferred during the peer review process. If one of the two referees evaluating the article gives a positive report and the other a negative report, the article is sent to the third referee, or the Editorial Board makes the final decision by reviewing the referee reports.

The authors should consider the criticism and suggestions of the referee and Editorial Board. The author has the right to appeal, along with his reasons, if there is anything he does not agree with the evaluations. Referee must have of the article owner title or a higher title.

The evaluation period of the articles sent for publication in the Journal of İçtimaiyat is normally planned as 8 weeks. However, due to the lack of timely returns from the referees, reappointment of referees etc. For reasons, the referee evaluation process may take longer. The author (s) who submit articles to the İçtimaiyat are deemed to have accepted the evaluation and review process of the journal.

Information Note on Papers Derived from Theses or Presented at Scientific Events

As the Journal of İçtimaiyat, we support the conversion of theses and abstract presentations from scientific events into articles to encourage academic work to reach a broader audience. In this context, we consider papers derived from theses or those presented orally at scientific events but not published in full text. However, for such articles to be accepted, they must meet the similarity ratio conditions specified below.

Similarity Ratio
1. Articles Created from Theses:

  • Studies prepared in accordance with article format from unpublished thesis
  • No similarity ratio condition is required with the original format of the thesis. However, the similarity ratio, excluding the original format, must be less than 15%.
  • It must be clearly and explicitly stated in a footnote that the article is derived from a thesis.

 2. Articles Derived from Theses:

  • Articles derived from theses refer to new studies created by using a part of the thesis (such as the introduction, literature review, or methodology).
  • Similarity ratio: Must be less than 15%.

3. Abstract Presentations at Scientific Events:

  •  Similarity ratio: Must be less than 15%.
  • The full text must not have been previously published in any platform such as a proceedings book, book chapter, or journal.

Additional Requirements:

  • The specified similarity ratios refer to the similarity ratio with the original format of the work.
  • The overall similarity ratio is subject to the limitations specified in the writing guidelines of the Journal of İçtimaiyat.
  • Copyright: The work must not have been previously published on a commercial platform. Check whether your thesis is under copyright and whether permission is required to publish articles derived from the thesis. If your thesis has been published by a university or another institution, that institution may have specific policies regarding works derived from the thesis. It is the author's responsibility to verify this.
  • Cite Your Thesis Correctly: When quoting from your thesis in the article, it must be clearly referenced in the bibliography. Be transparent about the source of your research; if certain parts of the article are similar to your thesis, this must be explicitly stated.
  • Articles derived from theses or scientific events cannot exceed 10% of the total articles in the relevant issue of the journal.
  • If the work has been translated from Turkish to English or from English to Turkish, this must be clearly stated in a footnote.
