The Journal of International Museum Education (e-ISSN: 2687-4830/JIMuseumED) provides an international platform to develop knowledge and practices in the field of museum education. The main goal of our journal is to deepen knowledge in this field by sharing innovations, research findings, and best practice examples encountered in the education and training processes of museums. JIMuseumED is an international, peer-reviewed, non-profit, free-to-access, online academic journal that aims to develop museum education at all levels of education by publishing research, reviews, critiques, compilations, and translation articles. JIMuseumED aims to be an important reference source for researchers conducting research in this field by gathering scattered studies, especially in museum education, teaching in historical places and out-of-school education, and intangible cultural heritage education, under one platform. Therefore, we invite researchers and authors from different disciplines to contribute to JIMuseumED. Our journal accepts both qualitative and quantitative empirical research, compilations, and publication critiques conducted in all kinds of education-oriented museums, historical places, archaeological sites, science centers, etc. Our aim:

  • JIMuseumED aims to advance museum education and museum studies in international literature.
  • To ensure that original research, experiences, and projects in the field of museum education are shared with an international audience.
  • To promote the exchange of information on educational methods, teaching strategies, and pedagogical approaches in museums.
  • To support cooperation and dialogue among educators, academics, museum professionals, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • To provide solutions and suggestions for improving museum education practices, policies, and strategies.

Our journal is published online once a year. The studies that pass the evaluation in JIMuseumED are published as a preview without waiting for a new issue. JIMuseumED adopts free and open-access publishing policies as it aims to increase the quality and quantity of studies in this field. For this purpose, no fee is charged for the submission, evaluation, or publication of articles, and it also provides free and unlimited access to published articles.

Ethical Responsibilities and Policies

Candidate articles sent to JIMuseumED must meet the following conditions to be included in the evaluation and publication process. Articles that do not meet these conditions and do not comply with journal writing rules are rejected without the need for referee evaluation and are returned to the author(s).

  1. Manuscripts submitted to JIMuseumED must not be published in another journal or sent for publication. Papers presented previously in a congress - provided that the whole study has not been published in the congress book - and the articles compiled from the postgraduate thesis study should be indicated at the end of the page with a footnote containing the necessary information. Any responsibility for the published works belongs to the author(s)
  2. The studies reaching the journal are pre-examined by the editorial board in terms of the scope of the journal and compliance with the writing rules. As a result of this examination, the studies deemed appropriate are submitted to the evaluation of two referees. The referees are given 20 days to evaluate, and the referee who has not returned within this period is granted a one-time, 7-day grace period. If he does not evaluate work during this time, a new referee is appointed. For the candidate's work to be published in the journal, both referees must obtain a positive opinion. If one of the referees gives a positive opinion and the other gives a negative opinion, the study is submitted to the final opinion of the Editor or a third referee. The author(s) are obliged to make the corrections suggested by the referee(s) (if any). Studies that receive the printable report from the referee(s) enter the "Regulation" process. During this process, iThenticate plagiarism screening is carried out. As a result of the screening, the studies, which are 20% and below (except for the bibliography), are sent to the author with the report and asked to give the final form to the study. Works with 21% and above can be corrected or rejected by the Editor. The final shape of the studies is put on the string. Before the publication, the work is sent to the author for final control and approval. Approved work can be published from the front view without waiting for the number of time (research studies only) or can wait for the publication date of the new issue. Changes to published works can be made by contacting the Editor no later than 4 days after the relevant volume is published.
  3. The referee(s) do not have any information about the author(s) and the author(s) does not have any information about the referee(s). The responsibility of ensuring confidentiality in this matter belongs to the editors of the journal.
Publication Ethics

It is the responsibility of the author(s) to carry out the studies in following ethical principles. The author(s) should have obtained the consent of the participants with the approval of the ethical committee from the relevant institutions regarding their work when necessary, and they should state this in the "Method" section of the research. When the Editorial Board and referees request these documents when necessary, the authors are expected to submit them. Ethical duties and responsibilities in JIMuseumED have been prepared by taking into consideration the publication policies of journals scanned in national and international areas and the guidelines and policies published by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
