Evaluation of Primary Education by Primary Education Inspectors within the Context of Primary Education Improvement Efforts
Abstract
The aim of this study is to find out the problems of primary education in terms of
effectiveness teachers, administrators and administration in general, based on the evaluations
of primary education inspectors; and to contribute to the improvement of teaching- learning
process. To reach this aim, a questionnaire composed of fifty six items has been prepared
and conducted on 113 primary school inspectors working in Istanbul. In data analysis,
as a statistical technique, frequency and percentile distribution of the subject have been
used. According to the obtained results, teachers and administrators are making an effort
to improve teaching-learning process, but their efforts do not seen to be sufficient. Lack of
resources and technology, economic insufficiency, problems in curriculum development
and a lack of systematized evaluation have been elicited as areas in primary education that
need improvement.
