Author Guidelines

1. Submission

a) Manuscripts submitted to the Mediterranean Journal of Humanities (MJH) must be uploaded only via DergiPark online submission system. Submissions by e-mail are not accepted.
b) Before submission to MJH, manuscripts must be fully transferred into the MJH Template file (.docx).
c) For preliminary checks, a similarity report (e.g., Turnitin, iThenticate or intihal.net) must be obtained and uploaded during submission. See: Plagiarism Policy for detailed information
d) Submissions must not have been published elsewhere and must not be under consideration for publication in another journal.
e) The application form must accurately and completely include each author’s name, academic title, institution, postal and e-mail address, ORCID iD, telephone and, if available, fax number.
f) The manuscript must not exceed 7,500 words (approximately 20 pages), excluding title, abstract and bibliography.
d) The title, subject, aim, method, scope and main problematic of the manuscript must be consistent with each other.
e) The manuscript must be prepared in accordance with generally accepted scientific principles and ethical standards.

2. Scope

a) MJH publishes original research produced in various disciplines of the social sciences within the fields specified on the journal’s Aims and Scope page.
b) The journal accepts manuscripts in Turkish, English and German.
c) MJH does not publish special issues for symposia.
d) The journal aims to foster interdisciplinary interaction and to support scientific debate and knowledge exchange within national and international academic communities.
e) In addition to research articles, the journal may publish review papers.

3. Manuscript Preparation & Writing Rules


Manuscripts must be transferred into the “MJH Template File” and uploaded via the online system by clicking the “Submit Article” button on the MJH website.

3.1. Main Text Structure

The text file (docx) containing all of the information below must be presented in the following order:

a) Original Title: Should reflect the subject of the article and contain no abbreviations.
b) Turkish Title: Must be a full translation of the Turkish title.
c) Author Information: For all authors, should provide in order: academic title, full name, institutional affiliation, city, ORCID, and e-mail.
d) Highlights: Summarize the study’s key contributions in 3–5 short sentences (each no more than 100 characters).
e) Abstract: 150–200 words summarizing aim, method, findings and conclusions.
f) Keywords: 4–6 keywords reflecting the content.
g) Highlights (in Turkish): The English equivalents of the Turkish highlights.
h) Abstract (in Turkish): Must fully correspond to the Turkish abstract.
i) Keywords (in Turkish): 4–6 keywords reflecting the content.
j) Extended Summary (in Turkish): For Turkish manuscripts provide an English extended summary; for English manuscripts provide a Turkish extended summary (350–500 words). It must be detailed and not identical to the short abstract.
k) Main Text: Excluding title, abstract and bibliography, the manuscript length must not exceed 7,500 words (approx. 20 pages).
k) Bibliography: All sources cited must be listed completely and in accordance with MJH referencing guidelines.

Manuscript Template (for manuscripts in English):

3.2. Formatting

a) Font & Size: Times New Roman, 11 pt.
b) For Greek and other special characters use Aisa Unicode.
d) Century notation: Use Roman numerals up to AD/Xth century (e.g., XI. century BC) and Arabic numerals thereafter (e.g., 19th century AD).
e) Headings: Main title and section headings must be written in bold with initial capitals.
f) Main Text:
    -    Do not use abbreviations such as f. or ff. for “following page(s)”; include full page numbers separated by a hyphen (-) without spaces before or after.
    -    Where cross-references are necessary, use “above” and “below” instead of “supra” and “infra”.
    -    With the exception of words generally accepted and used in Western languages, Greek words in body text and footnotes should be written in Greek and not in italics; Latin words should be written in italics.
    -    When other scholars are mentioned in the body text, they should be quoted first by their full first name. In the following only the surname should be used.
    -    Units of measurement should be in the metric system and should be abbreviated in the text without a period as follows: g, kg, km, m, cm, mm.
    -    When a slash ( / ) is used, there is a space before and after it.
f) Tables and Figures: Place within the text at relevant points. Use the “Fig.” abbreviation only, with continuous numbering. Provide explanatory captions. Ensure tables, figures, graphs, photos, drawings, and maps are used without disrupting text/page flow. Captions appear below the item in 10 pt (e.g., Fig. 1, Fig. 1–3).
g) Figures: May be placed within or at the end of the text. Use Fig. plus continuous numbering and give the caption on the same line after the number; captions in 10 pt, below the figure. If drawings/photos are not produced by the authors, source credit must be given.
h) Image files: .jpeg or .tiff, minimum 300 dpi.
i) Copyright: Obtaining permissions for visual materials is the responsibility of the author(s).

3.3. In-Text Citations & References

Sources must follow the Harvard author–date system as adapted by MJH, with abbreviations and footnote/bibliography conventions: author’s surname, year, page number (and where applicable, plate/figure/no.). The Bibliography must appear at the end of the article.

a) In-text (Harvard): Surname Year, page(s). Examples: (Özüdoğru 2020, 13); (Duggan 2015, 277–310).
b) Use "et al." for more than two authors/editors in text citations after the first author (Burragato et al. 2007, 692).
b) Same author, same year: McGing 1986a; McGing 1986b.
c) Apply the same rule on every occurrence; do not use ad loc., ibid, idem, loc. cit., op. cit., passim, Use full citations.
d) Figures/Tables/Plates: (Smith 2010, 45, fig. 2; pl. IV, no. 3).
e) Sorting: References listed alphabetically by author surname.
f) Abbreviations: Journal/series and ancient authors must be explained.
g) Include DOIs where available.
