Ethical Principles and Publication Policy

RESEARCH AND PUBLICATION ETHICS

Süleyman Demirel University Journal of Human Resources Management is a peer-reviewed e-journal published in accordance with the ethical principles and rules provided below, aiming to publish qualified scientific articles in the fields of the dynamic environment of human resource management, functions and strategy, equal employment opportunities, employee rights and discipline, human resource planning and job analysis, personnel recruitment, selection principles, orientation, training and employee development, managing careers, establishing performance management systems, creating reward and payment plans, employee social benefits and services, management of health and safety risks, labor relations, and collective bargaining. Articles submitted to the Süleyman Demirel University Journal of Human Resources Management are evaluated through a double-blind peer-review process and are presented electronically with free access. No fees are requested from any party during any stage of the publication process for articles submitted to the journal. Regarding publication ethics, the journal observes the principles, standards, and recommendations established by COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) and ICMJE (International Committee of Medical Journal Editors). All articles submitted for publication must comply with international ethical standards, and authors are required to adhere to the specified principles and rules. Articles that are not prepared in accordance with these standards may not be included in the evaluation process or may be excluded at any stage. Additionally, the journal policy includes detailed information regarding situations accepted as plagiarism and unethical behavior.

 

Ethical Responsibilities of Authors;

  • Authors must ensure that the manuscripts submitted to the journal have not been previously published elsewhere and/or have not been submitted to another journal for publication. Authors cannot apply to more than one journal simultaneously to publish their work.
  • Authors are required to provide citations for all references used within the article.
  • Authors acknowledge and declare that the manuscript submitted to the journal is their own work, that they have not committed plagiarism in any way, that all responsibilities arising from plagiarism belong to them, and that the journal has no responsibility in this regard.
  • Conflicts of interest and relationships that may arise regarding the articles must be disclosed by the authors.
  • Authors must guarantee that they have provided the necessary contributions to the submitted article and acknowledge that all authors have equal responsibility for the manuscript.
  • The corresponding author must undertake that all other co-authors mentioned in the article consent to the publication and to being named as co-authors.
  • All individuals who have made significant contributions to the article must be named as co-authors, and other individuals should be included in the acknowledgments section.
  • Authors are obliged to declare the institutions/organizations supporting the submitted work, financial resources, or conflicts of interest.
  • Authors are obligated to inform the journal editor if they notice an error or mistake in their work that has been published, opened for early access, or is in the evaluation stage.
  • No proposal should be made to change author responsibilities, such as adding an author or changing the order of authors, for a study for which the evaluation process has already started in the journal.
  • Authors must provide access to the data sets in their articles if deemed necessary.
  • Authors must prepare the manuscripts they submit for publication within the framework of research and publication ethics rules. They must have obtained separate ethics committee approval for research and for clinical and experimental studies on humans and animals that require an ethics committee decision, and they must state and document this approval within the article.

     

Ethical Responsibilities of Reviewers;

  • Reviewers must conduct their evaluations in a constructive and polite language and avoid personal comments containing hostility or insults.
  • Reviewers must evaluate the studies they have accepted for review in a timely manner and in compliance with ethical rules.
  • A selected reviewer who knows that they do not have sufficient qualifications to examine the research or that it will not be possible to evaluate the article quickly should notify the editor and request to be excused from the review process.
  • Reviewers must keep the manuscripts sent to them confidential and must not use the information obtained from the review process for their personal benefit.
  • Reviewers must not share review reports or information about the article with others and must not communicate directly with the authors without the permission of the editor.
  • Reviewers must be diligent about potential ethical issues in the articles and bring them to the attention of the editor. These situations include substantial similarity and overlap between the article under evaluation and any other published work of which the reviewer has personal knowledge.
  • Reviews must be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of authors should not be made; evaluations should be constructive, honest, and polite.
  • Concerns such as nationality, gender, religious belief, and political opinion should not affect the evaluations of the reviewers.
  • Reviewers must consult the editor before accepting to evaluate an article in which they have a potential conflict of interest that may arise from a competitive, collaborative, or other relationship or connection with any of the authors.

     

Ethical Responsibilities of the Editorial Board;

  • Editors must continuously strive to provide the information required by readers and authors.
  • Editors must constantly work towards the continuous improvement and development of the journal.
  • During the decision-making stage for the publication of manuscripts, editors must consider the originality of the work and its contribution to the scientific literature.
  • Editors must take care to keep the reviewer pool broad and up-to-date.
  • Editors must assist in the correction of errors, inconsistencies, or misrepresentations in the manuscripts.
  • Editors must assign manuscripts by considering the reviewers' areas of expertise and support unbiased and independent evaluations; they must prevent evaluations that do not comply with academic rules or lack scientific rigor.
  • It is the responsibility of the editorial board to decide which articles will be published in the journal. The board must conduct their evaluations regardless of the authors' race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophies.
  • Decisions must be based on the accuracy, validity, and significance of the article, as well as its suitability for the scope of the journal. Current legal requirements regarding libel, copyright infringement, and plagiarism must also be taken into consideration.
  • The editor or any member of the editorial board must not disclose information about a manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisors, and the publisher.
  • Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in the personal research of the editor or the editorial board without the explicit written consent of the author.

 

Ethics Committee Approvals;

Research requiring ethics committee approval includes:

  • All types of research conducted with qualitative or quantitative approaches that require data collection from participants using techniques such as surveys, interviews, focus group studies, observation, experiments, and interviewing,
  • Use of humans and animals (including materials/data) for experimental or other scientific purposes,
  • Clinical research conducted on humans,
  • Research conducted on animals,
  • Retrospective studies in accordance with the law on the protection of personal data.

Additionally:

  • An "informed consent form" must be obtained for case reports,
  • Permission must be obtained from the owners for the use of scales, surveys, photographs, and other visual materials belonging to others, and this information must be included in the relevant sections,
  • It must be declared that copyright regulations have been followed for the intellectual and artistic works used.

The status of the article submitted to the journal regarding ethical issues and ethics committee approvals must be clearly stated in the "Ethics Approval" section at the end of the manuscript. The "Ethics Committee Approval Report" must be uploaded to the system during the submission of the article to the Süleyman Demirel University Journal of Human Resources Management via DergiPark. If these permissions are missing or not submitted to the journal during the application stage, the manuscript will be returned to the author during the preliminary review phase.

 

Some unethical behaviors are listed below:

  • Including individuals as authors who have not made a conceptual or intellectual contribution to the study.
  • Excluding individuals as authors who have made a conceptual or intellectual contribution to the study.
  • Failing to disclose that the article was produced from the author's master's/doctoral thesis or a specific project.
  • Engaging in "salami-slicing" (least publishable unit), which involves publishing multiple articles from a single research study.
  • Failing to report conflicts of interest related to the submitted manuscripts.
  • Compromising or deciphering the double-blind peer-review process.
