Turkish Academy of Sciences Journal of Archaeology (TÜBA-AR) reserves the right to publish one special issue per year with the decision of TÜBA Council or TÜBA-AR Editorial Board. Researchers or scientific event organisers who wish to propose a special issue can send their special issue proposals, including the details of the relevant scientific event within the scope of the journal, to the journal secretariat via Dergipark. The TÜBA Council or TÜBA-AR Editorial Board reviews all proposals and a call for papers may be made for those accepted. A guest editor can be assigned to the journal only for the special issue.
Each special issue in the Turkish Academy of Sciences Journal of Archaeology is intended to provide a focused collection of articles around a relevant and current research theme that aligns with the journal’s scope and objectives. The purpose is to enrich academic literature by consolidating a range of perspectives, research findings, and insights. The editorial board may initiate a call for a special issue or respond to specific requests from researchers or scientific event organizers. Proposals from symposiums and conferences are welcome and will undergo evaluation by the editorial board and assistant editors to ensure relevance and quality.
Occasionally, the journal may issue a call for papers on an important and timely topic. Special issues typically consist of 10-12 research articles, complemented by introductory and concluding pieces.
Key evaluation criteria for special issue proposals include:
- Relevance and timeliness of the proposed theme
- Potential contributions to the academic field
- Alignment with the journal's editorial policies and thematic scope
All submissions for special issues will be processed through the Dergipark platform, with articles accepted in both English and Turkish. The editorial board may adjust article volume or language distribution when necessary. Articles must adhere to the journal’s formatting and style guidelines, and the special issue editor may set page length limits.
The peer review process for articles in a special issue is overseen by the chief editor or designated guest editor(s). The special issue editor is responsible for ensuring thematic alignment, timeliness of submissions, and adherence to peer review feedback. The review process mirrors that of standard issues, with additional support from area editors if needed.
The open access policy of the journal and the policy of not charging publication fees for articles are also valid for special issues.
