Manuscripts submitted to the Turkish Yearbook of International Relations should be original contributions and should not be under consideration for any other publication at the same time.
All manuscripts submitted to The Turkish Yearbook of International Relations are initially evaluated by the Editorial Board. The Board reserves the right to desk-reject submissions that do not align with the Journal's academic aims, scope, guidelines, or standards. Submissions that pass this initial screening are sent to two independent referees for academic assessment under a double-blind peer-review process. Based on the referee reports, the Editorial Board will decide to accept the manuscript, request revisions, reject it, or assign a third referee. Authors will be notified of the decision as soon as possible.
The publication ethics and malpractice statement is mainly based on the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).
The Turkish Yearbook of International Relations adheres to the principle of open, accessible, and free academic publishing. Therefore, there is no article processing and submission fees charged to the authors.
All publications can be accessed in full text from on the website without any restrictions and delays.
Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools:
The Turkish Yearbook of International Relations is aware of the increasingly widespread use of artificial intelligence tools in research, writing, peer-reviewing, and publishing processes. However, The Turkish Yearbook of International Relations has, from the very beginning, considered research, writing, peer-reviewing, and publishing activities as direct products of human agency, and it maintains its firm stance on this matter, particularly regarding the principles of responsibility and accountability. Accordingly, reserving the right to make updates in line with developments in AI technologies and changes in research and publication ethics rules, and acknowledging the obligation to declare these updates, The Turkish Yearbook of International Relations conducts its publishing activities based on the AI usage responsibilities outlined below:
1. Authors' Responsibilities:
a. Submissions categorized as "Book Reviews" that have been prepared using any assistive and/or generative AI tool, or where such tools have been utilized at any stage of the preparation process, will not be considered for evaluation.
b. Submissions categorized as "Research Articles" and “Opinion Articles” that utilize AI tools strictly for formal assistance—such as language checking/proofreading, title suggestions, and reference/bibliography formatting—will be considered for evaluation, provided they are declared as specified below. Therefore, if it is declared by the author and/or detected by the editor that AI tools were used in any way for the content generation of the article, including research, data analysis, critique, evaluation, and the creation of visual products, the publication process will be terminated immediately, regardless of the stage it is in.
c. Taking the above conditions into account, authors must provide a declaration under the heading "AI Usage Declaration" in the "Author's Note to the Editor" section found in the "Additional Information" tab during submission. This declaration must detail the name and version of the AI tool(s) used for assistance, as well as specify in which part(s) of the study, for what purpose, and to what extent they were utilized.
2. Reviewers' Responsibilities:
Given the utmost importance of maintaining the confidentiality of manuscripts still in the publication process, and in light of ongoing debates regarding data protection within the context of current AI technology, reviewers must not use AI tools in any manner during the peer-review process.
3. Editor's Responsibilities:
a. In the event that a submission declaring the assistive use of AI tools is published, this declaration must be clearly indicated (e.g., in a footnote) on the first page of the respective article.
b. If any discrepancy is noticed between the authors' declarations regarding the use of AI tools and the actual content of the submissions, the editor reserves the right to initiate an investigation to clarify the matter and to act in accordance with the journal's "Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools."
