A Comparison of Fifth-Grade Science Learning Outcomes and Textbook Activities Prepared According to Türkiye Century Education Model Based on the Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy

Abstract

In this study, the learning outcomes included in the 5th Grade Science Curriculum, which was prepared in accordance with Türkiye Century Education Model, and the activities presented in the 5th Grade science textbook were analyzed and compared based on the Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy. The research employed document analysis, one of the qualitative research methods, and the data were examined through descriptive analysis. Within the scope of the study, a total of 87 learning outcomes in the 5th Grade Science Curriculum aligned with Türkiye Century Education Model and 142 activities in the 5th Grade science textbook were analyzed according to the Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy. According to the findings, 37 of the learning outcomes in the curriculum and the activities in the textbook were found to correspond to the factual, remembering level of the Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy. While higher-order skills such as conceptual, creating and procedural analyzing were represented in the learning outcomes of the science curriculum, they were not reflected in the activities included in the science textbook prepared in alignment with the curriculum. Conversely, it was concluded that higher-order skills such as conceptual, evaluating and metacognitive, evaluating were represented to a greater extent in the 5th grade science textbook activities. In light of the results, it is recommended that the cognitive and knowledge levels of the learning outcomes be identified and that the activities in textbooks prepared in accordance with Türkiye Century Education Model.
