Factors affecting farmers' agricultural insurance participation

Abstract

bjective: The aim of the study is to determine the factors affecting farmers' agricultural insurance participation in perennial crops. Materials and Methods: The data were collected through questionnaires from 138 producers of grapes, hazelnut and citrus fruits. The logit model was used to determine the factors affecting farmers' agricultural insurance. Results: In the research, while 29% of the producers had agricultural insurance, 71% did not have agricultural insurance. It has been understood that 6% of the income of the producers for grapes, and about 2% for hazelnuts and citrus fruits, for insurance premiums, is sufficient to insure the product. Examining the factors affecting producers' insurance, it has been determined that agricultural experience, education, product, and land size had a positive effect on the probability of agricultural insurance. Conclusion: The results of the model will contribute to the determination of risk management strategies necessary for the spread of agricultural insurance.

Çiftçilerin tarım sigortası yaptırmalarını etkileyen faktörler

Öz

Amaç: Çalışmanın amacı, çok yıllık bitkisel ürünlerde çiftçilerin tarım sigortası yaptırmasını etkileyen faktörleri belirlemektir. Materyal ve Yöntem: Araştırmanın materyalini üzüm, fındık ve turunçgil üretimi yapan 138 üreticiden anket yoluyla elde edilen veriler oluşturmaktadır. Çiftçilerin tarım sigortası yaptırmasını etkileyen faktörlerin tespitinde logit model kullanılmıştır. Araştırma Bulguları: Araştırmada üreticilerin %29’u tarım sigortası yaptırmış, %71’i tarım sigortası yaptırmamıştır. Üreticilerin faaliyet sonrası gelirlerinin üzüm için %6, fındık ve turunçgil için ise yaklaşık %2’sinin sigorta primi için ayrılmasının, ürünü sigortalamak için yeterli olduğu anlaşılmıştır. Üreticilerin sigorta yaptırmasını etkileyen faktörler olarak; işletme sahibinin eğitim durumu ile tarımla ilgili deneyimi, yetiştirilen ürün çeşidi ve arazi büyüklüğü bulunmuştur. Sonuç: Model sonuçları, tarım sigortalarının yaygınlaşması için gerekli olan risk yönetim stratejilerinin belirlenmesine katkı sağlayacaktır.
