İngiliz Çocuk Edebiyatında Dört Büyük Çin Efsanesinin Uyarlamaları Üzerine Bir Araştırma

Öz

Beyaz Yılan Efsanesi, Meng Jiangnü, Liang Shanbo ile Zhu Yingtai ve Çoban ile Dokumacı Kız, Çin’in Dört Büyük Efsanesi olarak kabul edilmektedir. İngiliz çocuk edebiyatı alanında, bu efsanelerin mevcut uyarlamaları başlıca birkaç kanal aracılığıyla ortaya konmaktadır: bağımsız resimli kitaplar, Çin hikâyelerini içeren kapsamlı derlemeler ve iki dilli baskılar. Mevcut literatürün incelenmesi ve çalışmanın çeviri çalışmaları, çocuk edebiyatı kuramı ve resimli kitap kuramı çerçevesinde teorik temelinin oluşturulması yoluyla bu araştırma, İngiliz dili bağlamına uyum sağlamak amacıyla hikâyelerin çocuk okuyucular için yeniden şekillendirilmesinde kullanılan stratejileri incelemektedir. Bu stratejiler arasında dilin sadeleştirilmesi, anlatının kısaltılması, anlatıcı bakış açısının değiştirilmesi ve takdir edilen değerlerin güçlendirilmesi yer almaktadır. Bu çalışma, kültürlerarası hikâye anlatımı, uyarlama uygulamaları ve çocuk edebiyatının küresel kültürel farkındalığın oluşumundaki rolüne dair anlayışı derinleştirecek; ayrıca geleneksel anlatıların yeni dilsel, kültürel ve kuşaklara özgü beklentilere uyum sağlarken kalıcı kültürel anlamlarını nasıl koruyarak dönüştürüldüğünü ortaya koyacaktır.

Adaptations of the Four Great Chinese Legends in English Children’s Literature

Öz

The Legend of the White Snake, Meng Jiangnü, Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai, and The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl are considered the Four Great Chinese Legends. In the field of English children’s literature, existing adaptations of the legends are mainly realized through several channels: standalone picture books, comprehensive anthologies of Chinese stories, and bilingual editions. Through reviewing existing scholarship and establishing its theoretical foundation within translation studies, children’s literature theory and picturebook theory, this study examines the strategies used to reshape the stories for child readers to accommodate the English context, including simplification of language, narrative compression, shift of the narrative perspective and reenforcing applaudable values. This study will deepen understanding of cross-cultural storytelling, adaptation practices, and the role of children’s literature in shaping global cultural awareness and reveal how traditional narratives are transformed to meet the expectations of new linguistic, cultural, and generational audiences while continuing to carry enduring cultural meanings.
