This study aimed to examine the symptom severity of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in adults aged 18–45 within the context of emotion regulation difficulties, intolerance of uncertainty, and attachment styles. Data were collected from 204 participants (167 women, 37 men) using the Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRS), the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS), the Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale (IUS), and the Adult Attachment Styles Scale. The results revealed that the symptom severity of ADHD was positively associated with emotion regulation difficulties, intolerance of uncertainty, and anxious/avoidant attachment styles, while it was negatively associated with secure attachment. Emotion regulation difficulties and avoidant attachment predicted the severity of inattention symptoms, whereas secure and avoidant attachment predicted the severity of hyperactivity/impulsivity symptoms. Intolerance of uncertainty did not significantly predict the symptom severity of ADHD. Hierarchical regression models explained 50% of the variance in inattention symptoms and 33% of the variance in hyperactivity/impulsivity symptoms. Despite the abundance of research on ADHD, studies focusing on adult populations remain relatively limited. This study contributes to the growing literature on adult ADHD by highlighting the role of emotion regulation and attachment styles in the symptom severity of ADHD and offers valuable insights for therapeutic approaches.

Makaleler, hakemlerin değerlendirmesine Dergi Park sisteminden iletilmektedir.
