12 yıllık zorunlu eğitim Milli Eğitim İstatistikleri Sayısal görünüm Türk Eğitim Sistemi Zorunlu eğitim dönemi
The purpose of this research is to holistically examine the essential statistics between the 2012-13 – 2019-20 academic years in which the 12 years compulsory education has been employed in Turkey. In line with this purpose, the research was designed in general survey model. The data were retrieved from the official statistics published by the Strategy Development Unit, Ministry of National Education (MoNE) and the Centre for Student Selection and Placement. During the analysis, information about the MoNE Budget, schooling rates, the number of schools, classrooms, teachers, students, and also students who achieved to continue to the higher education level was gathered, and then the calculation results were summarised by tables and graphs. The analysis first showed that the MoNE Budget increased 2.64 times greater in the 2019-20 Academic Year than the 2012-13 Academic Year. In addition, the total number of students (in primary, middle, and high schools altogether) between 2012 and 2020 were relatively close in each year. During the same period of the 12 years compulsory education, despite the increase of expenditure per student from 2,940 TL to 7,550 TL, its US dollar equivalency of 1,614 in 2012-13 decreased to 1,026 US dollar in 2019-20. On the other hand, while the average number of students per classroom or teacher were 15-30 students, comparing the number of students per a primary (192-213 students) or middle (296-328) school, the number of students per a high school (432-628 students) was quite high. Considering these findings, to expand and enrich the learning environment of schools in Turkey by further decreasing the average number of students both for a classroom and school, it seems important to increase the educational budget for the establishment of more schools and/or further improvement of the physical structure in the existing schools, and naturally ensuring the employment of more teachers in these schools. Moreover, the number of students who could not achieve to continue to the higher education level during the first year in their secondary education graduate has chronically increased from 404,994 to 608,521 between 2012-13 and 2019-20 academic years. As a suggestion to minimize this continuously increasing student population expecting to attend higher education, the authorities can increase the student capacity in two-year vocational colleges by first re-organising these schools as independent higher education institutions and then establishing new degree programmes parallel to the areas of employment in the respective region.
