AKI KAURISMAKİ SİNEMASINDA MÜLTECİ TEMSİLLERİ: LE HAVRE ÖRNEĞİ

Öz

Bu çalışmanın temel amacı, Aki Kaurismäki’nin Le Havre (2011) filmini temel alarak, Avrupa genelindeki mülteci krizinin sinema sanatı vasıtasıyla ne şekilde temsil edildiğini ve söz konusu temsillerin toplumsal algılar, bilhassa medya temelli önyargılar üstündeki değiştirici ve dönüştürücü etkisini incelemektir. Çalışma, Kaurismäki’nin insancıl perspektifi ve minimalist estetiğinin, mültecilik kimliğini “tehdit”, “kurban” gibi farklı medya stereotiplerinden arındırarak insanlık, umut ve dayanışma temaları ile tekrar inşa etme kapasitesini derinlemesine değerlendirmeyi hedeflemiştir. Çalışma kapsamında göstergebilim ve anlatı analizi yöntemlerinden faydalanarak, Le Havre (2011) filminin mekânlar, renk paleti ve kostüm tercihleri gibi görsel ögeleri ve hikâye yapısı, açık uçlu final ve karakter gelişimi gibi anlatısal yapıları titiz bir biçimde analiz edilmiştir. Elde edilen bulgular, liman mekânlarının ve pastel tonlarının mülteci deneyiminin sosyal ve duygusal boyutlarını etkili bir biçimde yansıttığını, filmde Marcel’in Idrissa’yı kurtarma gayretlerinin toplumsal birlikteliği güçlü bir simge olarak gösterdiğini ve bürokrasiye dair eleştirinin ironik diyaloglar vasıtasıyla incelikle işlendiğini ortaya koymuştur. Bununla birlikte, filmin açık uçlu finalinin mültecilik meselelerinin çözümsüzlüğü ve karmaşıklığı üzerine düşünmeye zorladığı, söz konusu muğlaklığın toplumsal adaletin ne düzeyde kırılgan olduğunu vurguladığı belirlenmiştir. Nihai olarak Kaurismäki sineması, mülteci temsillerini anlatısal ve estetik bir bağlamda sunarak toplumsal farkındalığın artması sağlanmış, sinema sanatının sosyal adalet sorunlarına ilişkin eleştirel ve etkili bir araç olarak kullanılabileceğini ispatlamıştır. Bu yaklaşım, sinema sanatının toplumsal dönüşüm noktasındaki dönüşüme etkisini yeniden tanımlamakta ve gelecekteki çalışmalara esin kaynağı olabilecek bir temel sunmaktadır.

THE REPRESENTATION OF REFUGEES IN AKI KAURISMÄKI’S CINEMA: THE CASE OF LE HAVRE

Öz

The primary aim of this study is to examine how the refugee crisis across Europe is represented through the art of cinema, using Aki Kaurismäki’s Le Havre (2011) as a basis, and to investigate the transformative and transformative effect of such representations on social perceptions, particularly media-based prejudices. The study aims to thoroughly evaluate Kaurismäki's humanitarian perspective and minimalist aesthetic, which has the capacity to reconstruct the identity of refugees through themes of humanity, hope, and solidarity, freeing it from various media stereotypes such as ‘threat’ and ‘victim’. Using semiotics and narrative analysis methods, the visual elements of the film Le Havre (2011), such as its locations, colour palette and costume choices, as well as its narrative structures, such as its story structure, open-ended ending and character development, were meticulously analysed. The findings reveal that the port settings and pastel tones effectively reflect the social and emotional dimensions of the refugee experience, that Marcel's efforts to rescue Idrissa in the film powerfully symbolise social solidarity, and that criticism of bureaucracy is subtly conveyed through ironic dialogue. However, it has been determined that the film's open-ended finale compels reflection on the intractability and complexity of refugee issues, with this ambiguity emphasising the fragility of social justice. Ultimately, Kaurismäki's cinema has increased social awareness by presenting representations of refugees in a narrative and aesthetic context, proving that the art of cinema can be used as a critical and effective tool in relation to social justice issues. This approach redefines the impact of cinema on social transformation and provides a foundation that could inspire future work.
