A Design-Based Pedagogical Model for AI-Assisted Language Learning: Integrating ChatGPT into A1 German and Beyond
Öz
This study presents an instructional design framework that integrates artificial intelligence, specifically ChatGPT, into A1-level German language teaching. The proposed model is grounded in a structured, task-based, and constructivist pedagogical approach that guides teachers and learners through the systematic design of AI-assisted lessons. The design emphasizes the methodological organization of instructional steps and introduces a coherent five-stage framework outlining prompts, student actions, and teacher roles. Building on principles of scaffolding, the model reconceptualizes support as a form of digital scaffolding, where ChatGPT provides step-by-step linguistic guidance tailored to beginner learners. This structure enhances learners’ autonomy and personalization while maintaining teacher mediation, which remains central to the instructional process. By incorporating text-linguistic insights from the outset, the model ensures cohesive, replicable, and pedagogically sound lesson design. Its structured and text-linguistic design also makes the model adaptable to various languages and proficiency levels.
