Policy - Duties and Responsibilities

The role of an editor

The role of the editor is to maintain and develop the journal’s profile and reputation wherever possible. The editor has final responsibility for the journal’s content. The editor should ensure that the journal’s aims, scope, and content respond to any changes of direction in the field of study to incorporate newly-emerging work. The editor will work closely with the asistant editor and the journal’s publisher to ensure that it is strategically developed in line with market evolution. They will make recommendations in this regard, based on the editor's complementary expertise and sources of information.

As an editor of the Journal of Metaverse, the editor should make a true impact on his/her research field and provide a valuable service to his/her peers. Joining a journal’s editorial team is a commitment; the editor will need to invest time and effort to serve his/her professional community as an editor. The extent of his/her investment will very much depend on the particular position.

The main duties and responsibilities

Supported by a wider team, the Editor-in-Chief assesses incoming submissions, makes decisions, and manages the peer review process as well as promoting the journal and representing it at related conferences and events. Together with the publishing team at Izmir Academy Association (İzmir Akademi Derneği), the Editor-in-Chief determines and implements the strategic direction of the journal, defining its scope, recommending new team members and soliciting content to ensure the growth and development of the journal. Previous experience in another editorial role is highly recommended, and may be required before taking on the responsibilities of an Editor-in-Chief. Journal chief editors are appointed by the publisher's authorized committees for a period of 2 years. At the end of this period, a new editor may be appointed or the current editor's task may continue. Izmir Academy Association authorized boards may dismiss the editor-in-chief before the end of their term of office if deemed necessary. The reasoned decision in dismissal procedures is notified to the relevant editor. The chief editors of the Journal are responsible for their work and transactions in the relevant period.
