The Relationship between the Secondary School Students’ Their Academic Achievement in Turkish Lessons and Study Habits

The
aim of this research is to determine the relationship between the academic
achievements of secondary school students
in Turkish lessons and their study habits and, also, to compare the
students' study habits based on several variables. The research has taken place in two private schools in the central district of Ankara in the first semester of 2014-2015 academic year with 820 students
(430 girls, 390
boys). The research data has been
collected using “Study Habits Inventory”
which was developed by Uluğ (1981). Study habits and academic
success in Turkish lessons for
secondary school students varies according to gender in terms of
data obtained from the study. As the results of the research,
it has been found that firstly, there is a significant difference between the
levels of students in terms of study habits for Turkish lesson. Secondly, there
is not a significant difference between students’ study habits in terms of
receiving assistance while studying. Thirdly, there is not a significant
difference between the educational level of parents and the scores that
students obtained from the inventory and as the last finding, there is a
significant, mid-level and positive relationship between the academic scores of
secondary school students in Turkish lesson and the scores that they obtained
from the inventory.
