Writing and Language Rules

1.      The languages to be used in papers and articles published in the journal are Turkish and English.

2.      Submitted papers must be between 6,000 and 10,000 words, including references and appendices.

4.      For all research conducted using qualitative or quantitative approaches that require collecting data from participants through surveys, interviews, focus group studies, observation, experiments, or interview techniques; for studies involving the use of humans and animals (including materials/data) for experimental or other scientific purposes; for clinical studies conducted on humans and animals; and for retrospective studies under the Law on the Protection of Personal Data, ethics committee approval must be obtained and the approval document must be uploaded to the system. For studies requiring an ethics committee decision, the author(s) must also upload the wet-signed ethics committee approval while submitting their manuscripts to the system. For research that does not require ethics committee approval, a signed petition stating that ethics committee approval is not required must be uploaded.

5.      When using scales, questionnaires, or photographs belonging to others, permission must be obtained from the owners and this information must be stated in the study. In addition, compliance with copyright regulations must be ensured in the use of intellectual and artistic works, and the necessary citations must be included in the text.

Article Submission File

1. Title Page

In order to ensure the suitability of manuscripts submitted to our journal for the double-blind peer review process, the "Title Page," which contains author information, must be uploaded as a separate file from the main manuscript. While preparing the title page, the following points should be considered:

Language and Titles: The full Turkish and English titles of the article must be written completely in the fields specified in the template.

Author Information: The full names of all authors, their current ORCID numbers (in the format 0000-0000-0000-0000), and institutional information (title, institution name, and e-mail, in that order) must be provided.

Corresponding Author: The author responsible for correspondence must be clearly indicated.

Footnotes: If the study was produced from a thesis, prepared within the scope of project support (such as TÜBİTAK), or presented at a congress, this must definitely be stated in the footnote section at the bottom of the page.

Important Note: In order for the typesetting process to be carried out accurately with automation support, please do not change the bold headings in the template, and delete the explanations in parentheses and replace them only with your own information.

2. Main Manuscript

Although there is no template for the main manuscript file, it must be uploaded as a Word file with a .docx extension by following the rules below.

The main manuscript must not include the authors’ names, contact information, or any information that would reveal the authors’ identities. In general, it should be prepared in accordance with the rules stated below.

Important: The evaluation process of the Istanbul 29 Mayıs University Journal of the Faculty of Education is conducted according to the double-blind peer review principle. In this context, care should be taken not to include in the main manuscript any personal information such as the identity, institution, or publications of the author(s).

The font to be used in the manuscript must be Times New Roman, 11-point. The article must be written on A4-sized pages, justified, with 2.5 cm margins on all sides (right, left, top, and bottom). Paragraphs must begin with an indentation. Line spacing throughout the manuscript must be 1.5.

Page Layout

Headings

In the main manuscript, numbered headings such as 1., 1.1., 2., 2.1., 2.1.1., etc. must be used. All headings must be left-aligned, bold, and numbered. For example:

Tables

The font size in table content must be between 9 and 11 points. The table title must be bold, and the table text must be written in sentence case. The title must be placed above the table. The table content must be organized in accordance with APA 7 format. Horizontal lines should be used only under the table title and to separate the main sections. Tables must be prepared in Word format and must be editable.

Figures and Graphs

Figures must be placed in the center of the page. The figure title must appear above the figure and be left-aligned. The figure title must be bold, and the figure text must be written in sentence case.

Sections of the Article

The main text of the article must include the following headings: title, Turkish and English abstract/summary, introduction, method, findings, discussion, conclusion and recommendations, and references.

Article title: It must be written at the top of the page, with initial letters capitalized, in Times New Roman 11-point, centered, bold, and with 1.5 line spacing.

Abstract

At the beginning of every article, both a Turkish and an English abstract must be included. If the language of the article is Turkish, “Özet” should appear first; if the language is English, “Abstract” should appear first. The abstract should include the purpose of the research, the method, the sample or study group, the data collection tool, and the major findings. Abstracts must be justified and should not exceed 150–200 words. The abstract must be written in Times New Roman, 11-point, and single-spaced. Below the abstract, there must be 4–6 Turkish keywords reflecting the content of the article. After the bold abstract heading, a colon is placed and the text continues on the same line.

Introduction

This section should discuss the problem, purpose, and significance of the study and present the relevant literature. The introduction should explain the theoretical foundations of the study on the basis of primary sources in a non-textbook manner; in particular, the keywords and variables addressed should be clarified. Studies previously conducted in the relevant field should also be included in the introduction. If necessary, the author may also use subheadings in this section. The purpose of the study must definitely be stated clearly and plainly within the introduction, either under a subheading or in a new paragraph, and it should form the basis for the research hypotheses/problem/questions. Care should be taken to ensure that the stated purpose is based on a problem situation developed within the framework of the theoretical structure and the literature mentioned in the introduction.

Method

This section should clearly present the path followed to answer the research questions. For this purpose, depending on the type of study, the following subheadings should be explained, with adjustments made as needed: research design, study group/sample, data collection tools, data analysis, and process/procedure. The research design should be presented in connection with the research questions and the process, and the psychometric properties of the data collection tools should be introduced. For the analysis of the data, the procedures performed on the data and, if necessary, the process of deciding on the analysis technique should be briefly explained.

Findings

The findings of the study should be presented in this section. This section must be written in accordance with the writing rules stated throughout the article. Tables and figures must also be prepared in line with these writing rules. APA 7 rules must be followed in presenting numbers, formulas, and statistical findings in the findings section.

Discussion

This section should present the results of the study and compare the meaning of the obtained results with different data sources and the relevant literature. Care should be taken not to reduce this section merely to listing previous studies that support or do not support the findings of the study; instead, the findings should be discussed within the framework of the relevant theoretical structure and the literature. The limitations of the study should also be provided in this section.

Conclusion and Recommendations

This section should present the conclusions and recommendations related to the research findings. The conclusion should not merely be a summary of the findings; rather, it should indicate what the findings obtained from the research mean in theoretical and practical terms. Recommendations should be written directly on the basis of the research findings and limitations, and general recommendations should be avoided.

References

The reference list must be prepared according to APA 7 format. In addition, special attention should be paid to the following rules:

·         For sources that have a DOI number, the DOI must definitely be included in the reference list. The DOI must be written in the format “https://doi.org/”.

·         In in-text citations, “&” must be used when citing works with multiple authors.

·         When citing works with more than two authors, only the first author should be named, followed by “vd.” in Turkish-language manuscripts and “et al.” in English-language manuscripts.

Example: If the language of your article is Turkish: (Yılmaz, vd., 2023); if it is English: (Chimoni et al., 2018).

Copyright Form

As part of the submission process, authors will be required to guarantee in the Copyright Form that they are submitting their original work, that they hold the rights to the work, that they have obtained and can provide all necessary permissions for the reproduction of copyrighted works not belonging to them, that they are submitting the work for first publication in the Journal, that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere, and that it has not previously been published elsewhere.

The Copyright Form must include the information of all authors, must be signed by the corresponding author, and must be uploaded to the system.

Response Letter to the Reviewer/Editor

This is a response letter explaining how each correction and change suggested by the reviewers during the manuscript evaluation process was addressed, or, if a suggestion was not implemented, the reason why it was not implemented. Publication Ethics Principles

The İstanbul 29 Mayıs Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi Dergisi (e-ISSN: 3108-7434) is a national, peer-reviewed, academic journal published biannually in January and July. It adheres to national standards on research and publication ethics. The Journal complies with the Turkish Press Law, the Law on Intellectual and Artistic Works, and the Council of Higher Education's "Scientific Research and Publication Ethics Directive." Furthermore, the Journal endorses the International Ethical Publishing Principles published by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), and the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA).

Stakeholder Responsibilities
All parties involved in the publication process are required to comply with scientific research and publication ethics.

Editors' Responsibilities

Editors evaluate submitted manuscripts impartially, based on their relevance to the journal's scope, significance, and originality. They ensure that published articles contribute to readers, researchers, practitioners, and the scientific field, and are of an original nature.

The relationship between the editors, the publisher, and the journal owner is based on the principle of editorial independence.

Editors shall not share information about a submitted manuscript with anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, and the editorial board.

Editors must avoid any conflict of interest regarding accepted or rejected articles.

Editors ensure that all articles accepted for publication undergo peer review by at least two experts in the field.

Editors have the responsibility and authority to accept or reject articles. The responsible and timely exercise of this authority is essential.

Editors hold regular meetings with the Editorial Board to discuss publication policies and journal development.

Authors' Responsibilities

Authors must avoid plagiarism and fabricated data; the manuscript's footnotes and reference list must be complete. For details, see the Author Guidelines.

Authors should retain the raw data of their studies and present it for editorial review if requested by the journal.

The names of all authors who have actively contributed to the research should be included.

Individuals who have not made an active contribution to the research should not be listed as authors.

Any conflicts of interest must be disclosed at the earliest possible stage (typically by submitting a disclosure form during manuscript submission and including a statement in the manuscript).

All authors are obliged to make editorial corrections.

Reviewers' Responsibilities

Reviewers must be impartial in their assessments.

Reviewers should have no conflicts of interest with the research, authors, and/or research funders.

Reviewers are expected to provide more than a simple 'yes' or 'no' evaluation; they should detail negative opinions and provide justifications. For details, see the Reviewer Guidelines.

Reviewers are expected to provide text-centered evaluations. It is crucial to avoid statements that may damage the reputation or personal rights of the author(s).

Reviewers should identify published works relevant to the research that have not been cited.

Reviewers must keep the manuscripts they review confidential.

Duplicate Publication
Duplicate publication is the publication of the same manuscript, or largely similar manuscripts, in more than one journal. The editor will return such a manuscript without review. Subsequently, the editor may impose an embargo on the author attempting duplicate publication for a specified period, publicly announce this situation in the journal where the author previously published (as a simultaneous announcement with the editor of the journal that published the article), or implement all these measures together.
If the article is derived from academic works (Master's/PhD Theses or Scientific Meetings), this must be explicitly stated.

Simultaneous Submission of the Same Work to Multiple Journals
Author(s) may not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously. If the editor learns of a possible simultaneous submission at the beginning of the process, they may return the manuscript without review. If this situation is detected during the publication process, the editor may reject the manuscript without considering the reviews, or make this decision after discussing it with the other relevant editor(s), and decide not to accept manuscript submissions from the authors for a certain period. Furthermore, the editor may write to the authors' employers or implement all these measures together.

Plagiarism Screening
Plagiarism is presenting others' ideas, methods, data, practices, writings, figures, or works as one's own, partially or completely, without proper citation in accordance with scientific rules.
The İstanbul 29 Mayıs Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi Dergisi screens all submitted manuscripts using Turnitin software to prevent plagiarism. The expected similarity rate is less than 20%. The primary measure in the similarity rate is the author's adherence to citation and quotation rules. Even with a 1% similarity rate, plagiarism may still occur if citations and quotations are not properly executed. Therefore, authors must know and carefully apply citation and quotation rules.

Plagiarism Action Plan
Plagiarism, duplicate publication, fictitious authorship/denied authorship, research/data fabrication, article slicing (salami publication), copyright infringement, and concealment of conflict of interest are considered unethical practices. If plagiarism is suspected in a submitted or published article:

First, the work is reviewed by the journal's Editor-in-Chief, followed by the Editorial Board.

The journal contacts the author within one week to request their explanations.

If no response is received from the author within the specified period, the author's affiliated institution may be contacted to request an investigation of the allegation.

Despite all measures taken, serious sanctions will be imposed against authors of articles found to contain plagiarism:
a. The journal will immediately contact the author's affiliated institution for definitive action against the author in question.
b. The journal will remove the PDF copy of the published article from the website and disable all links to the full text. The phrase "Plagiarized Article" will be added to the title of the published article.
c. The journal will disable the author's account and reject all future submissions from the author for a period of 5 years.

Fabrication
Fabrication involves producing data not based on research, falsifying research records and obtained data, presenting methods, devices, or materials not used in the research as if they were used, excluding data inconsistent with the research hypothesis, presenting research that was not conducted as if it were, and distorting or shaping research results for certain interests. The process regarding fabrication allegations is conducted by the journal's Editorial Board.

Ethical Violation Reports
Readers who notice a significant error or inaccuracy in an article published in the İstanbul 29 Mayıs Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi Dergisi, or detect any violation of scientific research and publication ethics, can report it to egitimdergisi@29mayis.edu.tr. Such reports are welcomed for the development and quality of the journal and receive a prompt and constructive response.

Correction, Retraction, Expression of Concern
If minor errors that do not affect the findings, interpretations, and conclusions are identified in a published article, editors may consider publishing a correction. If major errors/violations that invalidate the findings and conclusions are present, editors should consider retracting the article. If there is evidence of potential misuse of the research or publication by the authors, evidence that the findings are unreliable and the authors' institutions have not investigated the matter, or a potential investigation seems unfair or inconclusive, editors should consider publishing an expression of concern. COPE guidelines are taken into account regarding corrections, retractions, or expressions of concern.

Ethics Committee Approval

Our journal requires that studies in all scientific fields requiring ethics committee approval must have obtained the relevant ethics committee decision. In this context, information regarding ethics committee approval (committee name, date, and decision number) must be clearly stated in the manuscript.
In accordance with the regulations implemented by ULAKBIM TR Index since 2020, studies without ethics committee approval are not accepted for evaluation in our journal.

Research Requiring Ethics Committee Approval

Research requiring ethics committee approval submitted to our journal includes the following:

All cross-sectional and experimental research conducted using qualitative or quantitative approaches involving data collection from participants through methods such as surveys, interviews, focus group studies, observation, and interview techniques.

Retrospective studies within the scope of the Law on the Protection of Personal Data.
For such studies to be accepted for evaluation, relevant ethics committee approvals must have been obtained and clearly stated in the manuscript.

Use of Artificial Intelligence

The use of artificial intelligence in processes that do not affect the originality of the manuscript, such as literature review or language checks, in studies submitted to our journal is acceptable. However, the use of AI must be carried out within an ethical framework and must not be used for unethical purposes such as data fabrication or manipulation.

For studies involving the use of AI, it is mandatory to inform the journal of this situation during the submission stage. All responsibility regarding the use of AI belongs to the authors. For detailed information, see the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy.

Editorial Confidentiality Obligation

The editors of the İstanbul 29 Mayıs Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi Dergisi treat all submitted manuscripts as confidential documents. Information about a manuscript shall not be disclosed to anyone without the authors' permission. During the manuscript review process; Editors, Reviewers, and Editorial Board Members can access the manuscripts. The only circumstance under which details of a manuscript may be disclosed to a third party without the authors' permission is if the editor suspects serious research misconduct.

Allegations-Suspicions of Research Misconduct and Scientific Misconduct
The İstanbul 29 Mayıs Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi Dergisi adheres to COPE's Ethics Toolkit for a Successful Editorial Office. The Editors of the İstanbul 29 Mayıs Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi Dergisi will take measures to prevent the publication of articles involving plagiarism, citation manipulation, data falsification, data fabrication, and other research misconduct. Under no circumstances will the editors of the İstanbul 29 Mayıs Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi Dergisi knowingly permit such misconduct to occur. If the editors of the İstanbul 29 Mayıs Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi Dergisi become aware of any allegation of research misconduct related to an article published in their journal, they will follow COPE's guidelines in addressing the allegations. This duty applies to both published and unpublished articles. Reviewers should also inform the editor if they suspect research or publication misconduct.
The İstanbul 29 Mayıs Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi Dergisi commits to applying COPE flowcharts when encountering allegations of misconduct in the following or similar matters.

Complaint Procedure

Complaints should be sent directly egitimdergisi@29mayis.edu.tr . Efforts are made to respond to complaints promptly, courteously, and constructively. The editor follows the procedure outlined in the relevant COPE flowchart for handling complaints.

Appeal Process

In case of serious objections to evaluations made by editors and reviewers, the appeal should be sent to egitimdergisi@29mayis.edu.tr . If the appeal is reviewed and the author's position is justified, the editor may request the author to submit a revised version of the manuscript. For the process to function healthily, it is important to include as much detail and evidence as possible in the appeal letter. Only one appeal per manuscript will be considered.

Conflicts of Interest

A conflict of interest arises when professional judgment concerning a primary interest (e.g., the validity of research) may be influenced by a secondary interest (e.g., financial gain or personal rivalry). To make the best decision on how to handle a manuscript, it is necessary to know about any competing interests of the authors, and if the article is published, readers should also be aware of them.

The İstanbul 29 Mayıs Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi Dergisi considers conflicts of interest between author(s), reviewers, and other editors to ensure the publication process of works is completed independently and impartially. In multi-authored works, a contribution rate statement, support and acknowledgments statement (if any), and a conflict of interest statement must be included at the end of the work following the peer review process.

Publication Policy

The İstanbul 29 Mayıs Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi Dergisi (İstanbul 29 Mayıs University Journal of Education) is a national, peer-reviewed, academic journal published biannually, with two issues per year in January and July.

The publication languages of the journal are Turkish and English. The Editorial Board decides on the publication of scientific works in other languages.

For translated works to be processed, a document proving permission from the author and/or publisher, titled "Permission Document," must be uploaded to the system. Additionally, a copy of the original text must be submitted digitally with the manuscript.

Manuscripts submitted to the journal that do not comply with the author guidelines will be returned to the author for correction before being included in the evaluation process.

The journal employs a double-blind peer-review system. A manuscript receiving two positive reviewer reports is accepted for the publication process. If one review is positive and the other is negative, the manuscript is sent to a third reviewer. For detailed information, see the Reviewer Guide and Article Evaluation Process.

Confidentiality is essential in the review process; therefore, reviewer information is not published in the journal's masthead.

A maximum of one study by the same author is published in a single issue. The same author cannot publish another work in the journal within two years of their previous publication.

Articles published in our journal are available as open access under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0) license. Manuscripts submitted to the journal must adhere to grammatical rules (spelling, punctuation, clarity, comprehensibility, etc.). The author is solely responsible for any problems or criticisms arising from such issues. For author guidelines, see Manuscript Guidelines.

All policies and processes for the journal are determined by the Editorial Board. The Editorial Board has the authority to decide on matters not specified here.

The journal reserves the right to decide whether to publish submitted manuscripts and to make necessary corrections when deemed appropriate. The legal responsibility for a published article belongs to the author and does not bind the journal. By submitting a manuscript, the author is deemed to have accepted these principles. Manuscripts not complying with these principles will not be considered for evaluation.
