Examining the Relationship Between Nurses' Professional Competence and Caring Behaviors

The aim of this study is to systematically examine the postgraduate theses in the field of nursing in Turkey based on Orem's Self-Care Deficit Theory. The study is a systematic review conducted in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. Nursing theses published between 1971 and 2024 in the YÖK National Thesis Center were scanned, and 20 theses that were accessible and met the specified criteria were included in the evaluation. The majority of the theses were at the doctoral level, with the most intensive use occurring between 2014 and 2023. The most frequently studied fields were Nursing and Pediatric Nursing. In the theses, positive effects of theory-based interventions on self-care power, quality of life and psycho-social variables were determined. Orem's theory provides an effective guide in structuring nursing care; it constitutes a strong theoretical basis especially in chronic disease management and person-centered care.
