I am a Professor Emeritus. My field is the history of medieval Eurasia with special emphasis on the Turkic peoples

Ben Emekli Profesörüm. Alanım, Türk halklarına özel vurgu yaparak ortaçağ Avrasya tarihidir.

Postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Political Science at USP. PhD in Political Science from UFSCAR, with a sandwich period at the University of Bristol (UK), Master in Social Sciences from UNIFESP and a degree in Sociology and Politics from FESPSP. I currently work as a professor of political theory at the Department of International Relations at USJT and am a member of the research team at the Laboratory of Politics and Government (FCLAR - UNESP), the research group Thought and Politics in Brazil (DCP - USP) and the European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR). I have dedicated myself to researching topics related to political theory such as political thought and populism, focusing on the theoretical and conceptual formulations of authors such as Francisco Weffort, Ernesto Laclau, Cas Mudde and Pierre Rosanvallon.

Expertise is in Middle Eastern history. Research focuses specifically on Iran and the Arab world.

Has a specific interest in alcohol, drugs, and stimulants (coffee, tea, tobacco) and their impact as forces in history.

Author of four award-winning books, “The Politics of Trade in Safavid Iran: Silk for Silver, 1600-1730,” which received the Iranian Ministry of Culture's award for best non-Persian book on Iranian history; "The Pursuit of Pleasure: Drugs and Stimulants in Iranian History, 1500-1900," which won the Albert Hourani Prize for best book on the Middle East and the Saidi-Sirjani Prize for best book in Iranian history; “Persia in Crisis: The Decline of the Safavids and the Fall of Isfahan,” which was awarded the British-Kuwait Friendship Prize and the Iranian Ministry of Culture's award for best non-Persian book on Iranian history; and "The Monetary History of Iran: From the Safavis to the Qajars,” which was awarded the Houchang Pourshariati Iranian Studies book Prize.

He is a scholar whose research is focused on contemporary Middle Eastern history. The primary focus of his research is on the social and political dynamics of countries such as Lebanon, Syria, and Palestine, with a particular emphasis on Armenian studies, diaspora movements, and minority communities. He develops interdisciplinary analyses on a range of topics, including interstate relations, identity formation, and historical memory.
