Aim & Scope
The primary aim of the Dokuz Eylul University Faculty of Engineering Journal of Science and Engineering (DEUFMD) is to publish high-quality, original research articles that contribute significantly to the fields of Engineering and Fundamental Sciences.
DEUFMD aims to provide an international platform for researchers, academicians, and practitioners to disseminate their theoretical and practical knowledge to the global scientific community. By accepting submissions in both English and Turkish, the journal seeks to bridge language barriers and ensure the widespread dissemination of scientific knowledge. Additionally, the journal aims to present current developments in the field through "invited review articles" solicited exclusively by the Editorial Board.
The scope of the journal covers all branches of Engineering, including Computer, Environmental, Electrical-Electronics, Industrial, Civil, Geophysical, Geological, Chemical, Mechanical, Mining, Metallurgical and Materials, Textile, and Software Engineering, as well as Fundamental Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics) related to engineering applications.
Author Guidelines
Writing Rules:
- The DEUFMD Article Writing Template is recommended for the preparation of articles in English.
- In-Text Citation: References must be indicated in the text with numbers in square brackets (e.g., [1], [2,3], [4-6]).
- Reference List: References must be numbered according to the order they first appear in the text, not in alphabetical order.

- DOI numbers must be added for all references that have a DOI number.
Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools:
- Authors must adhere to the following ethical principles when using generative AI and AI-assisted technologies (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, language editing bots) during the manuscript preparation process:
- Authorship: AI tools cannot be held responsible for the consequences of the work. Therefore, AI tools cannot be listed as authors.
- Disclosure: Authors must transparently disclose where and how AI tools were used (e.g., for writing, data analysis, or image generation). This statement should be included in the "Declaration of Generative AI" or "Materials and Methods" section.
- Accountability: Authors are fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of any content generated by AI. Authors must verify that AI outputs do not contain biased, incorrect, or incomplete information.
- References: AI tools should not be cited as a scientific source/reference, but their usage must be described in the methodology.
Plagiarism & Similarity Policy:
Plagiarism and Similarity Check All manuscripts submitted to our journal are screened using iThenticate (Crossref Similarity Check) software prior to the peer-review process. According to our publication policy:
- The total similarity index of the manuscript must be below 20%, excluding the bibliography (references).
- Similarity from a single source is preferred not to exceed 5%.
- The Editorial Board reserves the right to make the final decision by qualitatively analyzing the match report, even if the similarity index is below 20%.
Documents that need to be uploaded to the system during the article submission step:
- Full text file without author, institution, or email according to publication template (blind review)
- Turkish-English abstract file without author, institution, or email according to publication template (blind review)

Article Acceptance Process:
After review, accepted articles will be uploaded to the system again by the author in a format ready for printing and publication, with author names, email, and institution information filled in and the edited final version accepted by the reviewers. After these steps, articles will be queued for publication and DOI and page numbers assigned. COPYRIGHT TRANSFER AGREEMENT
Ethical Principles and Publication Policy
A. ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF AUTHORS
Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must guarantee that their submitted work is entirely original, the data is accurate, and the manuscript has not been published elsewhere (or is not currently under review). All sources used must be cited appropriately.
Ethics Committee Approval: For clinical and experimental studies on humans and animals, surveys, interviews, and research requiring personal data collection, "Ethics Committee Approval" must be obtained. The name of the board, approval date, and number must be stated in the "Methods" section.
Authorship: Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant intellectual contribution to the conception, design, analysis, and writing of the study. Contributors who provided only technical support should be acknowledged in the "Acknowledgements" section.
Conflict of Interest: Authors are obliged to declare any financial or personal relationships (Competing Interests) that could influence the results or interpretation of the study at the end of the manuscript.
Error Reporting: If an author discovers a significant error in their published work, they must immediately contact the Editor to cooperate in the retraction or correction process.
B. RESPONSIBILITIES OF EDITORS
Impartiality: Editors evaluate manuscripts based solely on their intellectual content and scope, without regard to race, gender, belief, or political philosophy of the authors.
Confidentiality: Editors must keep the content of submitted manuscripts confidential until publication and protect the anonymity of authors and reviewers (Double-Blind Review).
Process Management: Editors ensure that the peer review process runs fairly and on time. They must appoint new reviewers in case of a suspected conflict of interest.
Research Misconduct: In cases of alleged plagiarism or data manipulation, Editors follow COPE guidelines and have the authority to reject or retract the manuscript if necessary.
C. ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF REVIEWERS
Contribution and Competence: Reviewers should only evaluate manuscripts within their area of expertise and provide constructive feedback to assist the Editor in the decision-making process.
Confidentiality: Manuscripts received for review are confidential documents. Reviewers must not share the work with others or use the data for their own research.
Conflict of Interest: If reviewers realize a competitive or collaborative conflict of interest with the authors or institutions, they must notify the Editor and recuse themselves from the review.
Objectivity: Reviews should be objective and constructive; personal or hostile comments towards the author are unacceptable.
D. PUBLICATION POLICY
Scope: Our journal publishes original "Research Articles" written in Turkish or English in the fields of Engineering and Science.
Review Articles: Only "Invited Reviews" solicited by the Editorial Board are published. Unsolicited review articles are not accepted.
Peer Review Process: All manuscripts are subject to a Double-Blind Peer Review process. At least two external reviewers are assigned for each manuscript. The average evaluation period is 21 days.
Similarity Check: All submissions are screened using iThenticate. The similarity index (excluding references) must be below 20% (Similarity from a single source should not exceed 5%).
Open Access: DEUFMD is an open-access journal. Content is freely available to users under the Creative Commons (CC BY-NC) license.
Fee Policy: No fees are charged to authors for submission, processing, or publication (No APC).
Price Policy
There are NO PUBLICATION FEES (article processing charges or APCs) to publish with this journal.
