Maarif Vekili Hasan Âli Yücel’in Söylevlerinin Aristotelesçi Retorik Perspektifinden İncelenmesi: Nitel Bir Araştırma

Abstract

Bu çalışma, Hasan Âli Yücel’in söylevlerinde kullanılan ikna stratejilerini Aristotelesçi retorik perspektifle incelemektedir. Araştırmanın analiz birimi, Yücel’in Maarif Vekili olarak görev yaptığı 1938-1946 yıllarında gerçekleştirdiği altı söylevden oluşmaktadır. Veriler, Yücel’in söylevlerinden oluşan Milli Eğitimle İlgili Söylev ve Demeçler adlı eserden elde edilmiştir. Toplanan veriler cümle düzeyinde kodlanmış olup toplam 1049 cümleden oluşmaktadır. Bu cümlelerde kullanılan ikna stratejilerinin tespitinde içerik analizi, stratejilerin hangi yöntemlerle uygulandığının belirlenmesinde ise retorik analiz yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Analiz sonucunda, söylevlerde ethos, pathos ve logos stratejilerinin kullanıldığı tespit edilmiş ve her bir stratejiye özgü ikna yöntemleri ortaya koyulmuştur. Bulgulara göre Yücel, söylevlerinde ikna stratejilerini farklı kombinasyonlar halinde kullanmakla birlikte en sık logos stratejisinden yararlanmıştır. Bununla birlikte, ikna sürecinde neden gösterme, bilgelik/sağduyu, sorumluluk sahibi olma, akıl yürütmeye dahil etme ve mecaz kullanma yöntemlerinin öne çıktığı belirlenmiştir. Elde edilen sonuçların, eğitim liderlerinin söylevleri ve ikna süreçleri konusundaki araştırma literatürüne katkı sağlayacağı ve uygulayıcılar için retoriğin etkili kullanımına dair çıkarımlar sunabileceği değerlendirilmektedir.

An Examination of Minister of National Education Hasan Âli Yücel’s Speeches from an Aristotelian Rhetorical Perspective: A Qualitative Study

Abstract

This study examines the persuasive strategies used in Hasan Âli Yücel’s speeches through an Aristotelian rhetorical perspective. The units of analysis for this study consists of six speeches delivered by Yücel between 1938 and 1946, during his tenure as Minister of National Education. The data were obtained from Speeches and Statements on National Education, a collection of Yücel’s speeches. The collected data were coded at the sentence level and consist of a total of 1049 sentences. Content analysis was used to identify the persuasive strategies employed in these sentences, and rhetorical analysis was used to determine the methods through which these strategies were implemented. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that ethos, pathos, and logos strategies were used in the speeches, and persuasion methods specific to each strategy were identified. According to the findings, although Yücel used persuasive strategies in different combinations in his speeches, he most frequently drew on the logos strategy. Additionally, it has been determined that showing reasons, wisdom/common sense, being responsible, reasoning, and using metaphors stand out in the persuasion process. It is considered that the results may contribute to the research literature on educational leaders’ speeches and persuasion processes and may offer implications for practitioners regarding the effective use of rhetoric.
