Peer Review Policy
1. Purpose
The Ege Journal of Medical Sciences conducts a rigorous peer review process to ensure the publication of high-quality, original, and scientifically credible research.
The peer review system upholds the principles of impartiality, confidentiality, transparency, and scientific integrity.
2. Preliminary Evaluation (Editorial Screening)
All submitted manuscripts undergo an initial screening by the Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Secretary to assess relevance, format compliance, and ethical integrity (pre-evaluation).
At this stage, manuscripts that:
• Fall outside the journal’s aims and scope,
• Fail to comply with the author guidelines, or
• Exceed a 20% similarity index (iThenticate)
may be rejected outright (desk rejection) or returned for technical revision before peer review. Manuscripts that meet these requirements are assigned to the appropriate section editor for external review.
3. Peer Review System
The journal operates a double-blind peer review process, meaning that both authors and reviewers remain anonymous throughout the evaluation.
Authors must ensure that any identifying information (names, institutions, acknowledgments) appears only on the title page, and not within the main manuscript file.
Each manuscript is reviewed by:
• At least two independent expert referees.
• A third reviewer may be consulted when necessary (e.g., in case of conflicting reports).
Reviewers evaluate submissions based on:
• Originality and contribution to medical science,
• Methodological rigor and ethical compliance,
• Validity and reproducibility of data,
• Relevance, clarity, and scholarly impact.
Acceptance requires at least two favorable referee reports and the final approval of the Editor.
4. Revision Process
If revisions are requested, authors must respond comprehensively to all reviewer comments and resubmit the revised manuscript within 30 days.
Extensions may be granted upon justified written request. Revised versions are typically re-evaluated by the same reviewers to ensure compliance with recommendations.
5. Conflicts of Interest, Confidentiality, and Ethics
Reviewers and editors are obliged to disclose any potential conflicts of interest (financial, personal, or academic) related to the manuscript immediately.
All peer review reports are confidential and archived securely, accessible only to the editorial board. Reviewers must not use unpublished information obtained during the review process for personal or academic advantage.
No manuscript can be accepted for publication without positive reviewer recommendations.
6. Final Evaluation
After successful peer review, manuscripts undergo a final editorial assessment by the Editorial Board.
Papers approved as “Suitable for Publication” are placed in the publication queue for a forthcoming issue.
7. Review Timeline
The Ege Journal of Medical Sciences aims to complete the review process within the following time frame:
• Pre-evaluation: 1 week
• Peer review (first round): 8 weeks
• Final decision (post-revision): 1 week
The total target duration is approximately 10 weeks. Reviewers are expected to promptly notify the editor of any delays that could affect this schedule.
