JOURNAL WRITING RULES and PUBLICATION PRINCIPLES

Farabi Medical Journal is an international, peer-reviewed, and open-access scientific journal that publishes original clinical and experimental research articles, case reports, editorials, and letters to the editor in the fields of medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, and health sciences. Review articles are accepted for evaluation only upon invitation by the Editorial Board.

As of August 2025, only manuscripts written in English are considered for evaluation.

Throughout the submission and publication process, all manuscripts are reviewed in terms of grammar and language accuracy. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that manuscripts be reviewed by a language professional before submission.
The writing and editorial processes of the journal are based on the principles and guidelines established by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). All submitted manuscripts are initially evaluated by the Editorial Office for language and technical compliance. At this stage, it is verified whether the submission has been prepared and formatted in accordance with the journal’s author guidelines. Manuscripts that do not comply may be rejected with justification or returned to the corresponding author for revision.

Manuscripts that pass the initial technical screening are subjected to double-blind peer review by at least two independent experts in the relevant field. If necessary, the number of reviewers may be increased depending on the adequacy of the evaluations. The Editor-in-Chief holds the final authority and responsibility for all editorial decisions.
Farabi Medical Journal is published four times a year, in March, June, September, and December.
1. During submission, the following documents must be uploaded as separate files via the online journal system.

  I. Cover letter and Title page,
II. The full-text manuscript, prepared in Microsoft Word format and excluding author information, must be uploaded.

III. The scientific and legal responsibility for the published articles rests with the authors. The author(s) agree to transfer all publication rights of the manuscript to Farabi Medical Journal. The Copyright Transfer and Conflict of Interest Disclosure Form (declaring any potential conflicts) must be signed by all authors and uploaded as scanned copies. Original signed copies may be requested by post if necessary.

IV. Article similarity report: In accordance with its publication ethics, Farabi Medical Journal subjects all submitted manuscripts to a similarity (plagiarism) check. A similarity report generated via intihal.net is required for each submission. During the third step of the manuscript submission process, once the full-text file is uploaded, it will be automatically forwarded to intihal.net. As the report may take time to be generated, authors will be notified via email upon completion.
At the final stage, based on the similarity report results, the submission can either be finalized or reverted to Step 3 for revisions. If multiple files are uploaded and evaluated, all resulting reports will be forwarded to the editorial team. Editors may also utilize other similarity detection tools, such as iThenticate or Turnitin, when deemed necessary.
Figures, tables, graphs, and other visual materials used in the manuscript may be subject to copyright protection, as the rights may have been transferred to the responsible author or publisher of the original source. In compliance with national and international copyright and publication ethics, prior written permission must be obtained from the source author or publisher for any such use. Alternatively, the material should be recreated by the authors or referenced solely in written form without direct reproduction.

  V. All authors' information (including ORCID ID) must be uploaded to the system completely at the time of application.
Applications with missing documents and/or information at any stage of the evaluation process may be excluded from evaluation.
2. Ethics Committee Approval:
For studies requiring ethics committee approval, such approval must be obtained, clearly stated within the manuscript, and documented. Authors must confirm that the study was conducted in accordance with the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki (1964) and its subsequent revisions, as well as the relevant regulations issued by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Türkiye.
3. Peer Review Process:
Manuscripts submitted through the journal’s online system are first reviewed by the Editorial Board in terms of scientific quality, ethical compliance, and adherence to writing guidelines. The initial evaluation process takes approximately two (2) weeks. Manuscripts deemed suitable at this stage are then sent to at least two expert reviewers in the relevant field. The peer review process is expected to be completed within a maximum of one and a half (1.5) months. If revisions are requested by the reviewers, the authors must submit the revised manuscript via the journal system within one (1) month. Accepted manuscripts are published based on the date of acceptance.
