Academic impartiality, scientific quality, and ethical integrity constitute the fundamental principles in the evaluation of manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Music and Folklore Studies (JMFS). Authors are expected to comply with internationally recognized academic and ethical publishing standards, including the principles and guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

General Information

• JMFS is an international, peer-reviewed academic journal publishing scholarly research in the fields of musicology, ethnomusicology, folklore, and interdisciplinary music studies.
• The journal is published biannually in June and December.
• Each author may publish a maximum of one article per year in JMFS.
• Manuscripts may be submitted in Turkish or English.
• The similarity rate of submitted manuscripts must not exceed 15%, excluding references.
• Manuscripts submitted via e-mail are not accepted for evaluation.
• Manuscripts that do not comply with the journal’s formatting and submission guidelines, or that lack an abstract and references, will not be considered for peer review. The Editorial Board reserves the right to make exceptions in special cases.
• Ethical approval is required for studies involving human participants or animals where approval is mandated by institutional or national regulations.
• All manuscripts must be submitted through the journal’s online submission system available on the journal website.

Editorial Conflict of Interest Policy

If an editor submits a manuscript to JMFS, that editor’s access to the editorial management system for the relevant submission is suspended throughout the entire review and evaluation process. In such cases, the editor is treated solely as an author, and all editorial processes are managed independently to ensure impartiality and transparency.

Manuscript Preparation Guidelines

Authors are required to comply with the following formatting and submission requirements:

• Manuscripts must follow the APA 7 citation and referencing style.
• Submissions must be completed through the author’s registered account on the journal submission system.
• JMFS publishes original research articles and scholarly book reviews in Turkish and English.
• Manuscripts must include an introduction section and a conclusion section.
• Manuscripts should not exceed 12,000 words, including tables, figures, references, appendices, and supplementary materials.
• Manuscripts must be prepared in A4 page format using Microsoft Word and Cambria font.
• Main headings and subheadings should be formatted in 11-point bold font.
• The main text should be formatted in 11-point font with 1.15 line spacing.
• Manuscripts must include both Turkish and English abstracts.
• Abstracts should not exceed 250 words and must clearly state the purpose, scope, methodology, and principal findings of the study.
• Abstracts should be formatted in 9-point font with single line spacing.
• Authors must provide between 3 and 5 keywords in both Turkish and English.
• The introduction section should clearly present the purpose, scope, methodology, and research design of the study.
• Turkish-language articles must include an extended English abstract between 750 and 1000 words.

Mandatory Submission Files

The following files must be uploaded during manuscript submission:

1. An anonymized manuscript file prepared in accordance with the journal’s author guidelines. The manuscript must not contain any author-identifying information in order to ensure compliance with the double-blind peer-review policy.
2. A separate title page containing:
   • author names,
   • institutional affiliations,
   • ORCID information,
   • contact details,
   • and, where applicable, information regarding conference presentations, thesis-based production, funding support, or project acknowledgements.
3. A signed Copyright Agreement and Author Declaration Form.
4. A plagiarism/similarity report generated through an approved plagiarism detection software.

Additional Documents (If Applicable)

Where required, authors must upload an officially approved Ethics Committee Approval Document. Information regarding ethical approval — including committee name, approval date, and approval number — must also be clearly stated in the methodology section of the manuscript.

Ethics committee approval is particularly required for studies involving:

• surveys,
• interviews,
• focus groups,
• observations,
• experiments,
• and other qualitative or quantitative research methods involving human participants.

Language Editing

All accepted manuscripts may undergo Turkish and/or English language editing before publication. Authors may be requested to revise the linguistic quality of their manuscripts where necessary.

Final Submission Responsibility

Authors are solely responsible for ensuring that submitted manuscripts fully comply with the journal’s ethical standards, formatting requirements, citation rules, and submission procedures prior to final submission.
