About
Journal of Music and Folklore Studies (JMFS) is an international peer-reviewed journal published biannually, in June and December, by Sakarya University State Conservatory. The journal publishes original scholarly work in both Turkish and English and is committed to advancing interdisciplinary research in music and folklore studies at an international academic standard.
All manuscripts submitted to JMFS undergo an initial editorial screening followed by a rigorous originality check using the iThenticate plagiarism detection software. The similarity index must remain below 15%, excluding references. Submissions that pass the initial evaluation are reviewed through a double-blind peer-review process by at least two subject-matter experts; when necessary, a third referee may be consulted. Final publication decisions are made by the Editorial Board based on reviewers’ reports and overall scholarly contribution.
JMFS welcomes high-quality research articles as its primary focus; however, review articles, letters to the editor, translations, and current academic contributions are also considered for publication. The journal’s scope is intentionally broad and includes, but is not limited to, the following fields:
● Sound and music processing
● Music folklore and Turkish folklore
● Religious music
● Composition and performance in Western classical music
● Music perception, psychology, and sociology

JMFS adheres strictly to a double-blind peer-review policy to ensure academic integrity and impartiality. The journal does not charge any submission, processing, or publication fees.
By maintaining high scholarly and ethical standards, JMFS aims to contribute significantly to global academic discourse in music and folklore studies.
