01 Basic Principles
Manuscripts submitted to the journal must not have been previously published or submitted for review in another journal. Simultaneous submission to multiple journals is strictly prohibited; if detected, the manuscript will be rejected and the author will be notified.
All processes are conducted through the DergiPark system. Correspondence other than editorial and peer review processes is carried out via system messages and the journal's official e-mail address.
Manuscripts must be prepared using the article template available on the journal's website, without altering the template structure. Manuscripts not prepared according to the template will be returned during the preliminary check stage.
Authors are required to obtain an ORCID identification number before submitting a manuscript. ORCID can be obtained free of charge at https://orcid.org.
02 Language, Bilingual Publication and Proofreading
Manuscripts submitted to the journal may be written in Turkish or English in accordance with academic writing conventions. Manuscripts submitted in a foreign language other than English must include a full Turkish text; otherwise, the manuscript will not be considered for review.
As of the March 2025 issue (15/1), all issues of the journal are published simultaneously in Turkish and English.
Mandatory Proofreading
Manuscripts accepted after peer review must be translated into English and professionally proofread by an independent institution/organisation, appointed by the author(s). A verifiable certificate/document with a traceable revision file must be uploaded to the journal system. Failure to complete this process may result in the article not being assigned a DOI number, even if it has been accepted after peer review.
Recommended Proofreading Service Providers
Authors may choose any of the service providers listed below for informational purposes, or work with a provider of their own choosing. In either case, the certificate must include an online verifiable code (QR code, verification number, etc.).
| | Institution | Web |
|---|
| | Pedapub | pedapub.com |
| | Editage | editage.com |
| | Nexus Tercüme | trnexus.com |
| | Akademik Editör | akademikeditor.com |
| | Akademik Redaksiyon | akademikredaksiyon.com |
This list is provided for informational purposes only.
03 Article Review Process
Submitted manuscripts go through the following stages:
| Stage | Description |
|---|
| Preliminary Check | Template, language compliance, completeness check (twice) |
| Plagiarism / Similarity Screening | Automated screening via iThenticate |
| Section Editor Review | Assessment of scope suitability and scientific adequacy |
| Peer Review | Double-blind review; minimum 2, up to 3 reviewers if necessary |
| Language and Copy Editor Check | Proofreading – Editing stage |
| Similarity Report (Second) | Final screening prior to acceptance |
| Publication Process | DOI assignment, typesetting, publication |
Manuscripts that fail to meet the required conditions despite being reviewed twice during the preliminary check stage will be returned to the author and will not be reconsidered within the same publication period.
The section editor may, if deemed necessary, also review the submitted manuscript as a reviewer. Depending on the workload, publication of the manuscript in the next issue cannot be guaranteed.
04 Manuscript Withdrawal Procedure
Within the DergiPark process management framework, authors may request withdrawal at any stage, except for manuscripts that have been assigned a DOI, added to the acceptance list, or assigned to an issue.
Prior to withdrawal, authors must read the relevant notice and are required to provide a justification.
Withdrawal without a valid reason is not recommended. DergiPark may keep withdrawal statistics on a per-author basis; this data may be visible to the editor in subsequent submissions.
05 Similarity (Plagiarism) Report
A similarity report (iThenticate or Turnitin) must be obtained by the author and uploaded to the system along with the manuscript.
Mandatory Similarity Thresholds
| Study Type | Allowed Rate |
|---|
| General studies | Total ≤20% | Single source ≤3% |
| Derived from a postgraduate thesis | Total ≤20% | Primary source ≤10% | Single source ≤3% |
The journal may conduct additional similarity screening at the submission and acceptance stages when deemed necessary.
06 Authorship and Non-Author Contributions
Authorship criteria in ODÜSOBİAD are consistent with ICMJE recommendations. To qualify as an author, all four of the following conditions must be met:
▸ Conception / Data contribution — Making a substantial contribution to the conception/design of the study or the collection/analysis/interpretation of data.
▸ Intellectual contribution — Drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual content.
▸ Approval — Approving the final version to be published.
▸ Accountability — Agreeing to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.
Individuals who do not meet all four criteria cannot be listed as authors; however, their contributions must be clearly acknowledged in the "Acknowledgements" section (e.g., administrative support, funding acquisition, technical/language editing).
07 Equal Contribution and Corresponding Author
In multi-authored manuscripts, co-first authorship or similar statuses must be clearly indicated on the Title Page.
The corresponding author manages all correspondence with the journal from submission to publication, oversees the revision process, and keeps all co-authors informed. The corresponding author's e-mail address may be visible to readers in the published article.
08 Cover Letter
A cover letter is mandatory for all submissions.
The cover letter must be typed/pasted directly into the relevant field in the DergiPark system; it should not be uploaded as a separate file.
The following declarations must be included in the cover letter:
▸ That the manuscript has not been previously published and is not under review at another journal.
▸ That all authors have approved the submission and accept responsibility for the content.
▸ That the manuscript is appropriate for the journal's aims and scope (brief justification).
▸ A declaration regarding AI tools used (if none were used, this must be stated).
09 Submission Files
Required Files
| File | Description |
|---|
| Title Page | Author information, affiliations, ORCID, declarations |
| Blinded Main Text | Full text with author and institutional information removed |
| Similarity Report | iThenticate / Turnitin output (PDF) |
| Ethics Committee Document | Approval document if required; exemption declaration if not |
| Figures / Supplementary Materials | As separate files if applicable |
| Proofreading Document | Post-acceptance; coded certificate + tracked changes file |
The Title Page must include:
▸ Article title (Turkish and English)
▸ Author names, affiliations (University/Faculty/Department, City, Country), e-mail and ORCID
▸ Corresponding author contact information
▸ Declarations: conflict of interest, funding, author contributions (CRediT), acknowledgements, ethics committee approval, AI declaration
▸ Information on previous presentation or preprint (if applicable)
The following must be observed in the blinded main text:
▸ Identifying information such as author names, institutional names, and ethics committee names must be anonymised.
▸ Self-citations must not include expressions that reveal the author's identity.
10 Ethics Committee Approval
Compliance with research and publication ethics is mandatory for all manuscripts submitted to the journal.
Studies requiring ethics committee approval (TR Dizin compliant):
▸ Studies involving data collection through questionnaires, scales, interviews, observations, etc.
▸ Studies involving human or animal experiments.
▸ Retrospective studies involving sensitive/personal data.
Ethics committee approval information (committee name, decision date and number) must be included in the methods section and on the first/last page of the manuscript.
If the data collection/application process was carried out before ethics committee approval, the manuscript will be rejected by the editor. The difference between the approval date and the submission date must not exceed 2 years.
If you believe your study does not require ethics committee approval, please complete and upload the "Ethics Committee Exemption Declaration" to the system.
11 Generative AI Usage
Authors are required to declare if they have used any AI tool in any part of the manuscript production process (text writing/translation, data analysis, image generation, coding, etc.).
The declaration must include:
▸ The name and provider/developer of the tool used.
▸ The dates and purpose of use (in which section and for what purpose it was used).
AI tools cannot be listed as authors. Authors are responsible for the scientific accuracy and integrity of the content under all circumstances.
Failure to make adequate disclosure may result in termination of the review process, withdrawal of the acceptance decision, or correction/retraction procedures for a published article.
12 Conflict of Interest and Funding Declaration
All authors must clearly declare any potential conflicts of interest and sources of funding on the Title Page.
▸ If no conflict of interest: "The author(s) declare(s) no conflict of interest."
▸ If no funding: "This study received no funding support."
▸ If funded: The institution name, project/grant number, and the role of the funder in the study must be stated.
13 Copyright and Legal Responsibility
The copyright of all published works belongs to the journal. The copyright form must be completed and uploaded to the system along with the manuscript.
Authors are responsible for the views expressed in their articles. All legal responsibility for the articles rests with their authors.
Published articles are made available in open access under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence.
14 Spelling, Punctuation and Language Editing
Manuscripts must be prepared in accordance with the Turkish Language Association spelling guide (for Turkish) or current dictionary and grammar rules (for English).
The relevant editor may make necessary spelling corrections. The abstract in a foreign language may be corrected by the foreign language editor when deemed necessary.
Manuscripts that have not undergone the proofreading stage will not be accepted into the publication process.
15 Citation and Reference Style (APA 7)
Manuscripts submitted to ODÜSOBİAD must be prepared using the APA 7.0 citation style. The use of Zotero, Mendeley or EndNote is recommended for international compatibility.
