The Journal of Ottoman Civilization Studies adopts the principle that providing free access to scientific research will enhance global knowledge sharing and therefore offers immediate open access to its content. Access to the journal is entirely free. Since the journal's first issue, all published articles have been open access. The journal follows the Budapest Open Access Initiative.

Articles published in the Journal of Ottoman Civilization Studies are made available under Creative Commons licenses. These licenses provide an industry-standard framework to support the easy reuse of open-access materials. Under Creative Commons licenses, authors retain the copyright of their articles. Articles published in The Journal of Ottoman Civilization Studies are available as open access under either the CC BY-NC (Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License) or the CC BY (Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License), depending on the author's preference. The license chosen by the author(s) will be included in the PDF version of the article.
