İbrahim Hakan Karataş
Professor in Educational Administration
İbrahim Hakan Karataş completed his undergraduate studies in Turkish Language and Literature at Boğaziçi University in 1998 and earned a master’s degree from the same department in 2001. He received his Ph.D. in 2008 from the Department of Educational Administration, Supervision, Planning, and Economics at Marmara University. Between 1998 and 2002, he taught English, Turkish, and Turkish Language and Literature at private and public schools. In 1999, he served as a research assistant at Kars Kafkas University. From 2004 to 2010, he worked in the private sector and participated in textbook writing committees of the Board of Education at the Ministry of National Education. Between 2012 and 2013, he completed his postdoctoral research at the University of Northern Iowa in the United States. He is currently a faculty member in the Department of Educational Administration at the Faculty of Educational Sciences at Istanbul Medeniyet University.
At Istanbul Medeniyet University, he has held administrative roles such as Head of the Department of Educational Sciences, Chair of the Department of Educational Administration, Core Courses Coordinator, and Deputy Director of the Continuing Education Center. He currently serves as the Coordinator of the Teaching Development Center (ÖGEM) at the university.
Dr. Karataş has served as a member or advisor in various national and international civil society organizations. He is the founder of the School Heads Association and the international educator network, Leading Innovation for Educators (LIFE). From 2019 to 2022, he was the founding coordinator of the Educational Policy Research Center (EPAM), operating under the İLKE Foundation. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Board for the School Administrators Association and as Vice Chairman of the Board for the Association of Education Administrators and Supervisors (EYEDDER).
His academic research focuses on school leadership, educational administration, the internationalization of higher education, educational policies, and civil society organizations. In addition to numerous academic articles and book chapters, he has authored textbooks in Turkish, Turkish Language and Literature, and Language and Expression for primary, middle, and high school levels. Dr. Karataş has also published four original books and translated four others.
Currently, he is a visiting researcher at Makerere University, the oldest university in East Africa, in Uganda, where he is conducting research on the internationalization of higher education and educational diplomacy.
