https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/2.0/The aim of Turkish Online Journal of Distance Education (TOJDE) is to contribute to distance education literature with scholarly and academic perspectives and research in the field of distance education. It aims to inform research, policy and practice of distance education with rigorous research, conceptual and theoretical papers.

International in scope, this scholarly e-journal publishes refereed articles focusing on the issues and challenges of providing theory, research, and information services regarding all forms and methods of distance education or open learning applications. TOJDE particularly strives to meet the continuing education needs of practitioners, educators and policy makers by providing a forum for the discussion of extended learning strategies, policies and practices, and trends in information technologies as they all impact the field of distance education.

Articles may be theoretical, philosophical and/or empirical analyses of distance education/open learning and teaching issues, and may take the form of case studies, research studies or general interest reports.

Book reviews, literature reviews are welcome.

The Editorial Board may request language editing during the evaluation process of the submitted article. If the article is accepted for the Journal, it will not be published before proofreading and language editing.
All manuscripts must be submitted online through DergiPark which serves authors, editors, and reviewers and supports the full editorial process.

Authors should use the following guidelines while preparing their manuscripts.

  • The submitted manuscripts should be no less than 4000 words including references, appendices, tables, and figures. Submissions that are below 4000 words will not be accepted for review.
  • All manuscripts submitted to TOJDE should be prepared using the TOJDE Template. Manuscripts that are not prepared according to the TOJDE Template will be returned to the author(s).
  • The manuscripts should be sent as a MSWord File. Pdf documents will be sent back to the authors. 
  • All submitted manuscripts must use the 6th edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA) for both in-text and end-of-text references (See http://www.apastyle.org/ or https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/).
  • The submitted manuscripts should not contain information that reveals the identity of the authors. After the blind-review process, the authors are expected to submit the final version of their manuscripts containing author information, biodata, and photo.
  • Editor in Chief will return the manuscript(s) that do not follow the requirements or that are otherwise deemed unsuitable for publication to the author(s) for revision.
  • Authors should check the "Publication Policy" before submitting their articles.
  • Authors are responsible for the mistakes made in the details, such as the authors’ names, institutional affiliation, title, etc.

  • Articles submitted for publication must not be previously published or sent to another journal for publication. The work should not be published before, except in the form of abstracts, preprints, published lectures, theses, proceedings-type publications, or discussion papers that have not undergone full journal peer-review, and is not under consideration for peer-reviewed publication elsewhere.
  • The articles submitted for publication will be evaluated according to originality, academic objectivity, and scientific quality criteria. 
  • All submitted manuscripts are reviewed for compliance with the Journal initially by the Editor. If the Editor judges the paper not to be appropriate for the Journal, the Editor will send an email with that advice.
  • All manuscripts submitted to the Journal undergo an initial assessment to check whether the paper is in scope. If the Associate Editor judges the paper to be more appropriate for a Journal with a different scope, the Editor will send an email with that advice.
  • The goal of the peer-review process is to ensure that the articles that are submitted for publication remain within the scope of the journal, contribute to the literature on distance education, and to the rigor of the journal. It also provides the author(s) with complete reviews within a month after the submission of the manuscript.
  • The names of the reviewers remain strictly confidential, and their reports are kept for five years.
  • The manuscripts are sent to at least two reviewers. If one of the reviewers is positive and the other is negative, the manuscript is sent to a third reviewer, then, the Editor and the Associate Editor make the final decision by examining the reports of all referees.
  • The author(s) should respond to Editor's, Associate Editor's and Editorial Board's comments in a professional and timely manner.
  • The author(s) should inform the Editor if they withdraw their work from review.
  • If the author(s) does/do not agree with the criticism and suggestions, they have the right to appeal with reasons.
  • Manuscripts not accepted for publication will be returned to the author(s).
  • The approximate publication date of an accepted manuscript is about 9-12 months after the acceptance of the manuscript. 
  • The copyright of accepted articles to be published are transferred to Anadolu University.
  • The author(s) should take full responsibility for their submitted and published work.
  • There are no publication fees.
  • The author(s) is/ are aware that their submission will be automatically checked for plagiarism.
  • The author(s) is/are aware that discussion papers remain permanently archived, accessible, and citeable.
  • One author can publish only one paper each year.
  • The manuscript should contain nothing that is abusive, defamatory, libelous, obscene, fraudulent, or illegal.
  • To prevent plagiarism, iThenticate and Turnitin are used before publication.
  • All articles related to distance education are welcome.
  • Articles should be either theoretical or research-based articles.
  • Published articles have DOI since the first issue of 2014.
  • Book reviews are also welcome.

There are no publication fees.
