Görsel işitsel çeviri: “Orange Is the New Black” dizisinin İngilizce-Türkçe alt yazılarının Toury’nin öncül normları ve çeviri stratejileri açısından değerlendirilmesi

Öz

Görsel işitsel çeviri alanı çeviribilim açısından oldukça yeni bir alandır ve çeviribilim çatısı altında bir paradigma olarak nitelendirilebilir. Söz konusu literatüre bir katkı sunmak amacıyla kalem alınan bu çalışmada, 2013-2019 yılları arasında yedi sezon yayınlanan komedi drama türündeki “Orange Is The New Black” dizisinin İngilizce orijinali ve Türkçe alt yazı çevirileri incelenmiştir. Dizide, kadın mahkumların hapishanede yaşadıkları duygusal olaylar, geçirdikleri tecrübeler, aralarındaki iletişim, aşkları, değişimleri ve geçmiş hayatları detaylı olarak anlatılmaktadır. Bu açıdan orijinal dizideki İngilizce alt yazı olay örgüsüsü Türkçe alt yazıda ne oranda korunmuştur veya korunabilmiş midir sorusundan hareketle, Türkçe versiyonda uygulanan çeviri stratejileri örneklendirilmiş ve çeviride kaynak mı yoksa erek odaklı bir yaklaşım mı benimsendiği betimlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Yapılan araştırmada özellikle dublajla karşılaştırıldığında incelenen Türkçe alt yazıların çoğunlukla kaynak metne sadık kalarak aktarıldığı görülmüştür. Bu da Türkçe alt yazının Toury’nin öncül normları içerisinde yer alan yeterlik kutbuna yakın bir çeviri yaklaşımıyla oluşturulduğunu göstermektedir. Son olarak kaynak odaklı yaklaşım benimsenmesinin arkasındaki olası nedenler değerlendirme kısmında ifade edilmiştir.

Audio visual translation: An evaluation of English-Turkish subtitles of “Orange Is the New Black” in terms of Toury’s initial norms and translation strategies

Öz

Audio-visual translation is relatively a new field in terms of translation studies and can be considered a paradigm under the umbrella of translation studies. In order to contribute to the aforementioned literature, in this study, the English original and Turkish subtitles of the comedy drama series "Orange Is The New Black", shown for seven seasons between 2013-2019, were analyzed. In the series in question, the emotional events of female prisoners, their experiences, their communication with one another, their love, their changes and their past lives are narrated in detail. Starting from the question of to what extent the plot in the original series has been preserved or has it been preserved in the Turkish subtitle, the strategies applied in the Turkish version were exemplified from the first season of the series and it was tried to describe whether a source or target-oriented approach was adopted in the translation. In the evaluation, it was found that the Turkish subtitles were mostly created faithfully, especially when compared to the dubbed version. This shows the availability of the adequate translation, one of the initial norms by Toury, in the Turkish subtitle. Finally, possible reasons behind the application of the source oriented approach in the translated version were expressed.
