An assessment based on the theory of translatorial action for the revision of the target text

The subject of this study consists of the nature, scope, elements and related problems of the revision activity in the context of the translation field. Although the subject of revision is ignored in the field of translation studies, it is one of the important building blocks of the translation process. Because the revision activity is a natural phase of the translation process, that has been implemented since the first time the translation act emerged. For this reason, it is not possible to consider the revision activity independent from the translation activity. Likewise, the reviser, like the translator, should have the competence for the relevant translation process and the competencies for the target text. Therefore, in order to make sense of the revision activity, it is necessary to fully grasp the nature and characteristic of the translation act. In this study, the revision activity is evaluated on the basis of Justa Holz-Mänttäri's theory of translatorial action, and based on this approach, the revision activities carried out during and/or after the translation are handled within the framework of the translation action. For this purpose, firstly the nature and characteristic of the revision action was examined, then the position and duty of the revisionist was determined in terms of the realization of this activity, and determinations were made about how an ideal revision action should be carried out after addressing the problems related to the revision activity. The revision activity, which has a quality that overlaps with the translation action, has a multifaceted and complex structure. For this reason, it is difficult to determine the limits of revision activity. Because revision activity is much more than a correction process and quality control. It is also problematic to determine the position of the reviser, as each target text creation process will be unique from other different processes. In this direction, it is thought that it is necessary to evaluate the revision activity not in a one-way manner, but in a holistic sense, taking into account the nature of the translation process, in order to offer solutions to the existing problems in the field.
