Dr. Abdullah Akbas has been an Associate Professor in the Geography Department at Bursa Uludağ University since 2019. He completed his PhD at Istanbul University and his MSc at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University. During his PhD, he attended CERG-C (Specialization certificate for the assessment and management of geological and climate related risk) at the University of Geneva, Switzerland. Additionally, he joined the Hydrology group at the University of Bristol as a research collaborator during his doctoral studies, supported by a TUBITAK 2214-A fellowship. His research focuses on hydrology, natural hazards, climate change (modern and paleo), and earth-atmosphere modelling using statistical and dynamical approaches, integrated with remote sensing (RS) and geographic information systems (GIS) techniques.

Tolga Görüm is a geomorphologist interested in elucidating the mass wasting processes in different tectonic and geomorphic environments, their role in sculpting the landscapes, and mountain range evolution as a limiting factor for topographic development. In this respect, he is working on linking long- and short-term variability of erosion rates and landslide episodes at regional and local scales. He is using modern tools such as LIDAR and UAV in addition to field-based observations and measurements, geospatial technologies, geomorphic mapping and morphometric analysis, and radiometric dating techniques (e.g., Cosmogenic, OSL, and 14C) for erosion-process deciphering. In addition, considering that his secondary field of expertise is in landslide science, he seeks ways to apply soft computing techniques (e.g., Fuzzy Logic, Machine Learning algorithms) to improve the landslide susceptibility and hazard models for a safer environment.

İlk ve Ortaöğretim dönemi Anadoluhisarı'nda geçmiştir. 1983-87 döneminde İstanbul Üniversitesi Edebiyat Fakültesi Coğrafya Bölümünde eğitimini tamamlamıştır. Yine aynı üniversitede Deniz Bilimleri ve Coğrafya Enstitüsü Klimatoloji – Meteoroloji Bilim Dalında, 1989'da yüksek lisansını, 1993'te doktorasını tamamlamıştır. Aynı yıl (1993) İ.Ü. Deniz Bilimleri ve İşletmeciliği Enstitüsü'nde Araştırma Görevlisi olmuş 2000 yılında İstanbul Üniversitesi Edebiyat Fakültesi Coğrafya Bölümüne Yardımcı Doçent olarak atanmıştır.
2000 yılında Yardımcı Doçent, 2003'te Doçent ve 2011'de Profesör unvanlarını almıştır. 2012'den bu yana Fiziki Coğrafya Ana Bilim Dalı, 2013'ten bu yana Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü İklim Değişikliği Ana Bilim Dalı ve 2015'ten bu yana Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü Coğrafya Ana Bilim Dalı ve Edebiyat Fakültesi Coğrafya Bölüm Başkanlığı görevlerini yürütmektedir. Ayrıca 2015’den bu yana İ.Ü. Açık ve Uzaktan Eğitim Fakültesi Coğrafya Programı koordinatörlüğünü de yürütmektedir. Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü İklim Değişikliği Anabilim Dalının kurucu başkanı olmuş, Coğrafya Anabilim Dalı başkanı olarak Jeomorfoloji Programının da kurulmasını sağlamıştır.
Edebiyat Fakültesinin çeşitli kurullarında halen aktif olarak görev almaktadır. Piyasa ve yaklaşık maliyet komisyonları, fakülte kalite kurulu koordinatörü, atama ve yükseltilme kurulu başkanlığı görevleri yanında 09.07.2024 tarihinden bu yana Edebiyat Fakültesi Senatörü olarak İstanbul Üniversitesi Senato üyesidir.
Prof. Dr. Gönençgil'in çalışma alanları iklim ve çevre üzerine yoğunlaşmaktadır. 2007 yılında Almanya Leipzig Üniversitesi Fizik ve Yerbilimleri Fakültesi Coğrafya Enstitüsünde Socrates/Erasmus Öğretim Elemanı Hareketliliği Programında misafir öğretim üyesi olarak bulunmuştur. 2018 ve 2022 yıllarında Fransa’da, Sorbonne ve Paris 8 Üniversitelerinde misafir öğretim üyesi olarak bulunmuştur.
13’ü WoS, 6’sı Scopus olmak üzere 134 yayın, 147 WoS atıf, 133 Scopus atıf, WoS H-İndeks 6, Scopus H-İndeks 5, 11 proje ve 25 tez danışmanlığı bulunan Gönençgil, üniversitemiz yayın ofisince desteklenen ve ESCI’de taranan Journal of Geography dergisinin editörü, Türk Coğrafya Dergisinin Editör Kurulu üyeliğini sürdürmektedir. Bunun yanında farklı ülkelerde alanındaki bazı dergilerde misafir/alan editörü görevi ile çok sayıda hakemlikleri bulunmaktadır.
TÜBİTAK/BİDEP Uluslararası Coğrafya Olimpiyatı Türkiye koordinatörü görevini de yürütmekte olan Gönençgil, Uluslararası Coğrafya Birliği (IGU) Başkan Yardımcılığı görevini yürütmüş, 2022 yılında da Uluslararası Coğrafya Birliği (IGU) Genel Sekreterliği'ne seçilmiştir. Bununla birlikte 23 Haziran 2023 tarihinde Türk Coğrafya Kurumu başkanlığına seçilmiştir.
Michael Meadows, Immediate Past President of the International Geographical Union, is currently Professor in the School of Geography and Ocean Sciences at Nanjing University, China, but retains a research position in the Department of Environmental and Geographical Science at the University of Cape Town, where he was Head of Department from 2001-2017. Meadows has authored or co-authored more than 300 peer-reviewed research articles, including in Nature Communications, Nature Geoscience, Science Advances, PNAS, Geology, and Science Bulletin, He recently co-edited two major review volumes: Research Directions, Challenges and Achievements of Modern Geography (Springer, 2023) and Geography of the Anthropocene (Istanbul University Press, 2024). Meadows’ research interests lie broadly in the field of physical geography and more specifically concern environmental change and the geomorphological and ecological impacts of recent natural and human-induced changes. Meadows is an elected Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, the Society of South African Geographers, the Royal Society of South Africa, the African Academy of Science, Academia Europaea and of the University of Cape Town. He is also a Fellow of the Geographical Society of China and of the International Science Council. He is recipient of the 2024 Royal Society of South Africa’s Marloth Medal for “highly distinguished, multidisciplinary contributions to the furtherance of science”.

Professor Dr Mustafa Zeki ÇIRAKLI holds his PhD from METU, Ankara, Turkey (2010) and specializes in Narratology. He is the author of Narrative Strategies and Meaning (included in ENN Publication list; 2010) and Anlatıbilim: Kuramsal Okumalar (Narratology: Critical Readings; 2015; shortlisted for the best books of the year, Turkey, 2015). Furthermore, Çıraklı is the translator of Paul de Man’s Allegories of Reading, Figural Language in Rousseau, Nietzsche, Rilke and Proust; with an introductory chapter and critical notes; 2009). His translation A. N. Wilson’s Dante in Love appeared in 2013 and his collection of aphorisms (W/Ars Poetica) was published in 2019. Since 2010, he has been publishing a series of articles on narratology, and recently on corpus stylistics and education dealing with both theory and practice. He is the editor of the International Journal of Narrative and Language Studies. He is contributing to a TUBITAK project on Corpus Linguistics (2021). Çıraklı is currently a working group member of a European project (COST): Writing Urban Places. He is a faculty member at Faculty of Letters, KTU, Turkey.
