Music Interpretation in Western Classical Music

Bio

Sarper Dagtekin was born in 1994 in Ankara. He started his classical guitar education at the age of 15. The following year he won the classical guitar competition organized by Çankaya Municipality. In 2012, he started his academic music education at Başkent University State Conservatory Guitar Department. During his undergraduate studies, he studied with Ahmet Kanneci, Vural Kahraman, Ceren Baran, Erkan Mehmet Karagülle and Eren Süalp, and taught at Başkent University Classical Guitar Certificate Program. In 2017, he attended the Master's program in Classical Guitar Performance at the University of Alicante, Spain. Here he studied with world-renowned guitarists such as David Russell, Pepe Romero, Fabio Zanon, Ignacio Rodes, Manuel Barrueco, Xavier Diaz Latorre, Sergio and Odair Assad and Keigo Fujii. During the same period, he performed with chamber music groups, conducted research on classical guitar transcriptions and gave recitals and concerts with solo and chamber music groups in various regions of Spain. After returning to Turkey, he was accepted to Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory Guitar Master's Program. During her graduate education, he focused on the research of French music of the 17th and 18th centuries and conducted studies on the historical performance of guitar music of this period. In 2019, he completed his master's degree with his thesis titled " The French interpretation style of the 17th and 18th centuries and its practice via classical guitar sampling with Robert de Visee" and was accepted to Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory Guitar Proficiency in Art program in the same year. In 2020, he started working as a music teacher at the Ministry of National Education. In 2021, he started teaching at Giresun University State Conservatory with the title of lecturer. Within the 10th Antalya Guitar Festival, he performed the first vihuela recital in Turkey and gave number of concerts with Giresun University Chamber Music ensemble focusing on the 18th century Italian chamber music repertoire. In 2023, he graduated from the Proficiency in Art program with his thesis titled " Developing a historically informed Diminution Method By analyzing Giovanni Zamboni Romano, Op.1". Immediately after his graduation, he was awarded a scholarship to participate in the 2023 LSA Online Lute Festival with the appreciation of the Lute Society of America committee, and studied archlute in the master class with Bor Zuljan. Sarper Dağtekin is currently teaching guitar students at Giresun University State Conservatory and continues his concert works with archlute and vihuela.
