Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University Journal of Science aims to relay information related to scientific and technological developments in the area of engineering and science to researchers, and also support researchers in relaying studies into scientific publications and contribute to universal knowledge.

Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University Journal of Science publishes original articles, review articles, research articles, technical notes and editorial letters in all areas related to engineering and science.

Peer Review and Publication Policy

The editorial board reserves the right to reject manuscripts if they do not meet scholarly originality, or conform to journal aims and scope or follow submission guidelines. All submitted works undergo scholarly peer-review process. Articles are initially screened for relevance, originality and contribution by the editors. Articles submitted to be published in Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University Journal of Science are subjected to double-blind peer review by at least three referees. Articles accepted by at least two referees are prepared for publication. In detecting plagiarism, it is confirmed that the articles have not been published before and do not contain plagiarism through the program called Turnitin / Ithenticate. The maximum plagiarism rate has been determined as 24%, and this value can be changed by the editorial board. The editors may return manuscripts for revisions or to organize them in the house journal style. While the views of external reviewers are of primary influence on editorial decisions, the editorial board remains responsible for final decisions (not) to publish submitted manuscripts.

Article Submission Fee

No fee is charged from the authors, including article submission, referee evaluation and publication processes for the articles submitted to Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University Journal of Science. Every process from article submission to publication is free.

RULES FOR AUTHORS TO FOLLOW
Author (s) must prepare their articles in line with the journal publishing rules and with sensitivity to ethical rules.
Manuscripts that are not sent by the rules are not evaluated until they are made according to the rules.
The author (s) can follow the process related to the articles accepted for evaluation through the username and password sent to them from the website of the journal.
The author (s) sent to the referee with a request for correction as a result of the referee evaluation must send their corrections within 1 month.
The articles of the author (s) who have not responded during this period are excluded from the evaluation.
The author (s) must update their work in line with the referees' suggestions and opinions.
If they do not find any changes or additions proposed by the referee to be correct, they must notify this to the Editorial Board along with their reasoning, to be forwarded to the referee.
For articles in the evaluation phase, the author (s) may request to withdraw their work by e-mail, letter, or fax.
The acceptance of the withdrawal request is subject to the decision of the Editorial Board. The author (s) cannot send, publish, or publish the article to be evaluated elsewhere for which the Editorial Board has not approved the withdrawal request.
For those who make such attempts, necessary notification is made to the institution to which the author (s) is affiliated and the relevant broadcasting institution.
The posts for control and correction, which will be sent to the author (s) during the layout work, are not answered within the specified periods. The articles of the author (s) who do not respond within the specified times are postponed to be evaluated in the next issue.
The author (s) 's requests for any reason to put the publishing process forward of their articles are not accepted.
No articles are accepted for a certain number in Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University Journal of Science.
Author (s) can submit his article at any time. Articles whose evaluation process is completed are published considering the date of arrival.
The articles that have been prepared and sent by the rules of publication are processed after the necessary examinations are made.
Applications that do not comply with the rules will not be processed.
The author (s) only need to send the articles sent to them for correction in electronic form.
After the layout work of the articles decided by the Editorial Board to be published, the article is sent to the author (s) for the last time for possible errors.
The authors are obliged to make the control within the specified time. If the control is not carried out within the specified period, the article is postponed to the next issue.

Ethical Principles and Publication Policy

Bilecik Seyh Edebali University Journal of Science adheres to national and international standards on research and publication ethics. In this context, it has adopted the Press Law, the Law on Intellectual and Artistic Works, the Higher Education Institutions Scientific Research and Publication Ethics Directive and the International Ethical Publishing Principles published by the Committee on PublicationEthics (COPE).

Publication of Studies Based on Surveys and Interviews

Bilecik Seyh Edebali University Journal of Science adopts the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) “Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors” and “Code of Conduct for Journal Publishers” in order to create ethical assurance in scientific periodical publishing. In this context, the following points should be followed in the studies sent to the journal:

1) For studies requiring ethics committee approval and conducted in all branches of science (ethics committee approval must be obtained, this approval must be stated and documented in the article.

2) In studies requiring ethics committee approval, information regarding the permission (board name, date and issue number) should be included in the method section and also in the article.

Special Issue Publication Policy

Articles sent for inclusion in the special issue are first subject to an editorial preliminary review. Then, they are examined for compliance with the journal's writing rules and a similarity scan is performed to prevent plagiarism. After these stages, they are taken into an evaluation process using the double-blind model.

Article Retraction Process
Articles can only be retracted if they have not been formally published. To retract an article, authors must write a clear and concise letter that includes an in-depth explanation of why the article should be retracted. The letter must be signed by all authors. The journal reserves the right to retract an article for plagiarism, fraudulent use of data, or other violations of ethical rules.

Plagiarism Action Plan and Journal Measures

The journal respects intellectual property and aims to protect and encourage the original work of its authors. Articles containing plagiarism are against quality, research and innovation standards. Therefore, all authors submitting articles to the journal are expected to comply with ethical standards and avoid plagiarism in any form.

The journal will immediately contact the university to which the author(s) are affiliated in case of any published article found to contain plagiarism. The journal will remove the PDF copy of the published article from its website and disable all links to the full-text article.

This journal checks for plagiarism in submitted works: Pre-checked articles are scanned for plagiarism. Authors will be notified if plagiarism/self-plagiarism is detected. Editors may subject the article to plagiarism checks at various stages of the evaluation or production process, if necessary. High similarity rates may result in a paper being rejected before acceptance or even after acceptance. This rate is expected to be no more than 20% similarity, excluding the references and metadata, and no more than 5% similarity from a single source.

1. Author Responsibilities
• All authors must have contributed significantly to the research.

A statement that all data in the article is true and original is required.

All authors must provide retractions and corrections of errors.

Authors must pay attention to the following scientific research and publication ethics:

• The reference list must be complete.

• Plagiarism and false data must not be included.

• The same research should not be attempted to be published in more than one journal, and scientific research and publication ethics must be followed. Actions that are against scientific research and publication ethics are as follows:

a) Plagiarism: Presenting others' ideas, methods, data, applications, writings, figures or works as one's own work, partially or completely, without citing their owners in accordance with scientific rules,

b) Forgery: Producing data that is not based on research, editing or changing a presented or published work based on false data, reporting or publishing these, presenting a research that has not been conducted as if it was conducted,

c) Distortion: Falsifying research records and obtained data, presenting methods, devices and materials that were not used in the research as if they were used, not evaluating data that is not in line with the research hypothesis, tampering with data and/or results to fit the relevant theory or assumptions, falsifying or shaping research results in line with the interests of persons and organizations receiving support,

d) Re-publication: Presenting more than one work containing the same results of a research as separate works in associate professorship exam evaluations and academic promotions,

e) Slicing: Making multiple publications without citing each other and in a way that disrupts the integrity of the research by inappropriately dividing the results of a research into parts presenting them as separate works in the evaluation of associate professorship exams and academic promotions,

f) Unfair authorship: Including people who have no active contribution among the authors, not including people who have active contribution among the authors, changing the order of authors without justification and inappropriately, removing the names of those who have active contribution from the work during publication or in subsequent editions.

2. Responsibilities of Reviewers

• Reviews must be impartial.

• Reviewers must have no conflict of interest with the research, authors, and/or research funders.

• Reviewers must indicate relevant published but uncited works.

3. Editorial Responsibilities

• Editors have full responsibility and authority to accept or reject a paper.

• Editors must have no conflict of interest with respect to the papers they accept or reject.

• Only papers that contribute to the field should be accepted.

• When errors are found, they must support the publication or retraction of the correction.

• Reviewers must keep their names confidential and prevent plagiarism/false data. The review process is central to the success of scientific publication.

Article Evaluation Process

Bilecik Seyh Edebali University Journal of Science uses a two-stage process in the evaluation of submitted papers: internal editorial review and external review. Immediately after submission, the Editor-in-Chief/Editor checks the article for compliance with the journal's purpose and scope and ethical standards in research and writing. Articles that comply with the journal's publication policy are sent to one of the Associate Editors for formal review. The Assistant Editor reviews the article for compliance with the journal's writing rules and scans the article for plagiarism. The external evaluation process is initiated for articles that complete these processes. During the external evaluation phase, at least two external referees are selected by the Field Editor from among experts who have research on the subject of the article. Referees are determined from among researchers who have at least a PhD degree in the relevant field. Referees evaluate the article in detail in terms of its subject, method and results and express their opinions on whether it should be published or not. Articles that are evaluated are subject to double-blind peer review. Articles that are accepted by at least two referees are prepared for publication. The work accepted for publication is read for the last time by the Editor-in-Chief/Editor. It is then sent for English language control.

Çalışma alanları probiyotik, starter ve patojenler gibi farklı özelliklerdeki mikroorganizmaların izolasyon tanı ve karakterizasyonu üzerinde yoğunlaşmıştır. Bu amaçla bakteri, maya, küf ve bakteriyofaj gibi farklı mikroorganizma grupları çalışılmıştır. Çalışmalarda ayrıca, elde edilen izolatlardan uygun özelliklerde bulunan suşları ile model gıdalarda starter kültür ve probiyotik ürünlerin üretimi gerçekleştirilmiş ve depolama sürecinde kalite özellikleri incelenmiştir.

Doç. Dr. Sinan Temel, Bilecik Şeyh Edebali Üniversitesi Fen Fakültesi Fizik Bölümünde görev yapan bir akademisyendir. Lisans, yüksek lisans ve doktora eğitimlerini Eskişehir Osmangazi Üniversitesi Fizik Bölümünde tamamlamıştır. Doktora tezini "(MgO)x(ZnO)1-x ince filmlerinin üretimi ve karakterizasyonu" üzerine yapmıştır.

Akademik kariyerine 2011 yılında araştırma laboratuvarında uzman olarak başlayan Temel, 2015 yılında Dr. Öğr. Üyesi, 2021 yılında ise Doçent unvanını almıştır. Aynı zamanda üniversitesinde Senato Üyeliği, MYO Müdürlüğü ve Merkez Müdürlükleri gibi çeşitli idari görevlerde de bulunmuştur.

Çalışma alanları; fizik, malzeme bilimi, mikroelektronik, ince filmler, nanoyapılar, optik ve elektriksel özellikler, ve yoğun madde spektroskopisi gibi konuları kapsamaktadır.

Akademik kariyerinde birçok SCI kapsamındaki dergide yayınları, kitap bölümleri, tez danışmanlıkları ve desteklenen araştırma projeleri yer almaktadır. Ayrıca, 2007 yılında Balkan Physical Union tarafından düzenlenen bir fizik proje yarışmasında üçüncülük ödülü almıştır.

Over 17 years’ experience in RDI, being a PhD in Agronomy since 2013. The area of expertise includes the identification and quantification of physico-chemical compounds in bio resources, with applications in the fields of agriculture, energy, and environment.
Technical skills and competences:
-Using chemical analysis equipment / tools (UV / VIS, TLC) and physical chemistry (determination unit refraction index, optical microscopes, viscometers, density meters, etc.) - the skill gained in the research projects in which I was involved;
- Using analytical methods for both inorganic analysis using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), MPA FT-NIR;
- The use of process equipment: installation of extraction – microwave-assisted extraction, pressurized fluid extraction, supercritical fluid extraction / distillation, fractionation / separation.
I have coordinated two transnational projects as a project partner from Romania (AlgaeBrew and HaloSYS), and I have been involved in more than 10 international and 20 national projects.
About the publications, I am a co-author for two books (national) and three electronic manuals (international), and more than 20 scientific articles.
Regarding awards, I have over 15 awards at the Invention and Innovation Salons, both as an author and as a co-author.

Doç. Dr. Nihal Şimşek Özek, Ankara Üniversitesi Fen Fakültesi Biyoloji Bölümü’nden 2001 yılında lisans derecesini almıştır. Yüksek lisans (2004–2007) ve doktora (2007–2015) eğitimlerini Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi Fen Fakültesi Biyoloji Bölümü’nde tamamlamıştır. Uzmanlık alanı biyofizik olup, moleküler biyofizik, biyolojik spektroskopi ve yaşam bilimleri konularında çalışmalar yürütmektedir.
2004–2016 yılları arasında ODTÜ’de araştırma görevlisi olarak görev yapan Dr. Şimşek Özek, 2016 yılından itibaren Atatürk Üniversitesi Fen Fakültesi Biyoloji Bölümü’nde, 2017 yılından beri Atatürk Üniversitesi Doğu Anadolu Yüksek Teknoloji Uygulama ve Araştırma Merkezi (DAYTAM)’nde akademik kariyerine devam etmektedir. Aynı zamanda 2019-2024 yılları arasında Atatürk Üniversitesi Doğu Anadolu Yüksek Teknoloji Uygulama ve Araştırma Merkezi (DAYTAM) Müdür Yardımcılığı görevini sürdürmüştür.
Yurt içi ve yurt dışı çok sayıda bilimsel projede yürütücü ve araştırmacı olarak yer alan Dr. Şimşek Özek’in araştırmaları, yüzey zenginleştirilmiş Raman spektroskopisi (SERS), FTIR spektroskopisi ve sitotoksisite analizleri gibi ileri biyofizik teknikleri içermektedir. Dr. Gamzenur Özsin, 2008 yılında Anadolu Üniversitesi’nden Kimya Mühendisliği ve İşletme bölümlerinden mezun olmuştur. Yüksek lisans eğitimini Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi'nde (ODTÜ'de) tamamlamasının ardından Anadolu Üniversitesi'nde araştırma görevlisi olarak çalışmaya başlamıştır. Doktora çalışmaları sırasında Japonya’da bulunan Kyushu Üniversitesi’nde misafir araştırmacı olarak görev yapmıştır. Doktorasını tamamlamasının ardından 2017 yıında Bilecik Şeyh Edebali Üniversitesi Mühendislik Fakültesi'nde öğretim üyesi olarak göreve başlamıştır. Doktora sonrası çalışmalarını İngiltere’de bulunan Imperial College London'da yürüterek, bu kurumda Reseach Associate olarak çalışmıştır. Dr. Özsin halen Bilecik Şeyh Edebali Üniversitesi Kimya Mühendisliği Bölümü’nde görev yapmaktadır ve Anadolu Üniversitesi ve Eskişehir Teknik Üniversitesi'nde de misafir olarak dersler vermiştir. Araştırma alanları arasında piroliz, karbonizasyon ve oksidasyon gibi termokimyasal dönüşüm süreçlerinin kinetik ve termodinamiksel modellemesi; çevresel uygulamalarda ve enerji depolama teknolojilerinde kullanılan karbon esası malzemeler ve kompozitlerin sentezi ve uygulamaları, malzeme karakterizasyonu gibi konular yer almaktadır.
