Special Issue 2026: Contemporary Fiqh

The Journal of Islamic Law Studies has initiated a series of annual English Special Issues, starting from 2026, with the aim of contributing to international academic literature and fostering global scientific interaction. Within the scope of this series, the dynamic nature of Islamic law and the processes of legal analysis and evaluation regarding contemporary issues are addressed on an academic platform. Under the primary theme of "Contemporary Jurisprudential (Fiqh) Issues and Proposed Solutions", the special issue focuses on research that analyzes the relationship between the methodological continuity of classical Islamic legal theory (Usul al-Fiqh) and the legal requirements of the modern era, offering interdisciplinary perspectives and concrete solutions.

Special issues are prepared in full adherence to the Journal of Islamic Law Studies’ general editorial policies, author guidelines, and publication ethics based on COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics), YÖK (Council of Higher Education), and university ethics committee guidelines. In this context, submissions for the special issue series are subject to the same rigorous scientific quality standards and independent double-blind peer review processes as the journal’s regular issues. In line with the continuous publication model adopted as part of the journal’s general publication strategy, articles are published online and assigned a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) immediately upon the completion of peer-review and editorial processes, without waiting for the completion of the full issue. All studies are published exclusively in English and digital format under the CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license, with no print edition. The journal does not charge any submission, processing, or publication fees at any stage of the editorial process.

The editorial process is managed by the journal’s current editorial board in collaboration with national and international guest editors who adhere to COPE, YÖK, and university ethics committee guidelines. The 2026 Special Issue aims to identify contemporary matters emerging across the broad scope of Islamic law and to develop jurisprudential solutions for these issues. Within this general framework, the analysis of contemporary developments from a jurisprudential perspective, particularly transformations experienced in economic, medical, social, and technological fields, constitutes the primary agenda items. In this context, research across a wide range of topics—such as the jurisprudential status of financial transactions, legal approaches to medical developments and bioethics, new issues emerging from family life and social dynamics, the jurisprudential implications of the digital realm, and solutions offered by Islamic law in the face of global ecological challenges—will be considered for evaluation.
