The general writing guidelines regarding the preparation and evaluation processes of the works to be submitted to the Journal of Islamic Law Studies are as follows:
1) The Journal accepts scholarly works such as original research articles and translations covering all theoretical, practical, and contemporary matters of Islamic law.
2) The articles submitted to the journal should not be previously published or accepted for publication from elsewhere. Articles produced from post-graduate theses and symposium reports can be uploaded to the journal system along with the ethical statement at the beginning of the article.
Example: This article is grounded on my master thesis/doctorate dissertation titled “…”, (Master Thesis/PhD Dissertation, ….. University, City/Country, 2022).
This paper is the final version of an earlier announcement called “…”, not previously printed, but orally presented at a symposium called “…”, the content of which has now been developed and partially changed.
3) It should be stated the ethical committee approval on the first page and in the method part of the study for the studies requiring ethical committee approval (as board name, date, and issue no). Ethics committee permission certificate must be uploaded to the system as an additional file. Please see The Ethical Principles and Publication Policy of the journal for the studies requiring ethical committee approval.
4) All submissions are screened using plagiarism detection software. However, the numerical data (percentage) resulting from the software is not considered a sufficient criterion on its own. Each study is meticulously examined by the editorial board regarding the compliance of the data in the report with academic citation and quotation rules, as well as the scientific originality of the text.
5) At least one of the authors is required to hold a PhD degree. In articles derived from postgraduate theses, the student must be listed as the first author and the supervisor as the second author.
6) The "Copyright and Author Declaration Form" must be fully completed and uploaded for all submissions. This form includes the copyright and licensing declaration, author contribution roles (CRediT), conflict of interest disclosure, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) usage information.
7) Turkish, Arabic and English articles can be published in the journal. Just one study of an author can be published in an issue.
8) The length of articles should be at least 4,000 words and no more than 10,000 words (excluding Turkish and English abstracts, bibliography, and appendices). Articles exceeding 10.000 words are included in the referee process if deemed appropriate by the Editorial Board.
9) At the beginning of the article, there should be Turkish and English abstracts consisting of 250-300 words, at least 5 Turkish and English keywords, and Turkish and English titles. The first keyword must be the name of the field of science (such as Islamic Law, Fiqh). Keywords should be ordered from general to specific.
10) Turkish/English abstract should be written in a single paragraph. In the part of Turkish abstract, for spelling proper names (religion, sect, person, surah, and so on), book name, and terms that are not Turkish, the usage in the Religious Foundation of Turkey Encyclopaedia of Islam (see https://islamansiklopedisi.org.tr) should be followed. For spelling proper names, book names, and terms in the English texts (abstract and keywords), the 3rd edition of the Encyclopaedia of Islam should be considered.
11) The resources cited in the text should be added at the end of the text under the title of Bibliography in the format given below. The bibliography should be in accordance with the Isnad Citation Style 2nd version. Click here for the Isnad Citation Style. The transcription system should not be applied to author and work names in Arabic sources.
12) Isnad Citation Style 2nd version (Arabic) should be taken into attention in footnotes of Arabic articles. Although there is an Arabic bibliography at the end of these articles, there should be a bibliography in Latin letters in accordance with the Isnad Citation System 2nd Edition.
13) For research such as translations, modernizations, and similar studies, scanned copies or PDF versions of the original texts must be uploaded to the system as supplementary files.
14) The use of Zotero, Mendeley, or Endnote is recommended in terms of international coherence in article writing.
15) In accordance with the information provided in the "Copyright and Author Declaration Form" signed during the submission stage, declarations regarding conflict of interest, author contributions, financial support, use of artificial intelligence, and data availability must be included within the manuscript.
